He must read them for pleasure, and who can claim that what pleases one man must necessarily please another?

“文革”时，香港部分“左派”借北京发生“火烧英国代办处”的事件，在市民中煽动反英情绪，引发反英行动，遭英方的暴力镇压，后来触发了“五月风暴”。在大量“中共即将武力收复香港”等谣言的蛊惑声中，香港人心惶惶，发生了自“二战”后的第一次大移民潮。许多有钱人纷纷贱卖住宅、商店、厂房、物品，携款远走他乡，楼市更是无人问津。当时拥有数个地盘、物业的李嘉诚经过深思熟虑，对“(中共)会不会以武力收复香港，在香港推行大陆的共产主义制度”的问题做出了判断：“不可能!中共若想武力收复香港，早在1949年就可趁解放广州之际一举收复，何必等到现在?而香港是大陆对外贸易的惟一通道，保留香港现状，实际上对中共大有好处。中共并不希望香港局势动乱。”他毅然采取惊人之举：人弃我取，趁低吸纳。李嘉诚买下旧房翻新出租;利用地产低潮、建筑费低廉的良机，在地盘上兴建物业。到70年代初，香港百业复兴、地产市道转旺，李嘉诚已拥有的35万平方英尺的收租物业为其带来390万港元的年租金收入。
李氏集团从一个中小地产商迅速成长为地产界的巨无霸，还依靠股市杠杆的神奇魔力，而李嘉诚的商人才智在股市中尽显风采。李嘉诚巧用低进高出的股市定则，常常创造财富奇迹。李嘉诚巧借股市大肆扩张，其风险当然是巨大的，但李嘉诚却能运作自如、绝少失手。究其缘由，正所谓人无远虑，必有近忧。未雨绸缪是李嘉诚在商道中制胜的一个“法宝”：“天文台说天气很好，但我常常会问自己，如果五分钟后宣布十号台风警报，我会怎样。在香港做生意，就要保持这种心理准备。”
诚信为佳和气为贵
屏50年代，李嘉诚甫做塑胶花时，常去皇后大道的一间公爵行接洽生意。“我经常看见一个四五十岁很斯文的外省妇人，虽是乞丐，但她从不伸手要钱。我每次都会拿钱给她。有一次，天很冷，我看见人们都快步走过，并不理会她，我便和她交谈，问她会不会卖报纸。她说她有同乡干这行。于是，我便让她带同乡一起来见我，想帮她做这份小生意。时间约在后天的同一地点。客户偏偏在前一天提出要到我的工厂参观，客户至上，我也没办法。
于是在交谈时，我突然说了声‘Excuseme’，便匆匆跑开。客人以为我上洗手间，其实我跑出工厂，飞车跑到约定地点。途中，超速和危险驾驶的事都做了，但好在没有失约。见到那妇人和卖报纸的同乡，问了一些问题后，就把钱交给她。她问我姓名，我没有说，只要她答应我要勤奋工作，不要再让我看见她在香港任何一处伸手向人要钱。事毕，我又飞车回到工厂，客户正着急：‘为什么在洗手间找不到你?’我笑一笑，这件事就这么过去了。”此事虽小，但细微之处足见李嘉诚的守信。李嘉诚“解释”说：“信誉，诚实，是我的第二生命，有时候比自己的第一生命还重要。”
从商60多年的李嘉诚，诚信事例可谓数不胜数。而守信也变成了巨大的生产力：“我现在就算再有多十倍的资金也不足以应付那么多的生意。而且很多是别人主动找自己的，这些都是为人守信的结果。”中国人经商讲究“和为贵”、“和气生财”的道理，李嘉诚不仅深谙此理，而且笃行此道。

再一次上英语外教课，老师给我们做游戏，这个游戏又可以学英语，又可以玩，各个同学都玩得很过瘾。是这样的：老师把一二大组叫TEST1，三四大组叫TEST2，先是TEST1回答问题，再是TESE回答问题，每个人只能回答一次问题。就是把电脑缺的单词补上去，如果答对的话就可以在大方格中选一个小方格，里面分别有5分，10分，20分，30分，而且还有两个台风。台风可以把对方得分是降为零，这样玩起来很刺激。然后再投球，把一个软绵绵的球扔到黑板上，黑板上有一个大圈，里面有一个小圈，如果投到那里就可以乘5分，如果投到其他地方只能乘2分。玩完后，大家有的愁眉苦脸，显然他们组输了。有的却眉开眼笑，显然是他们组赢了。
这就是我的外教，是我们班的外教，是一个令人喜欢的外教。
