The exact origins of Duan Wu are unclear, but one traditional view holds that the festival memorializes the Chinese poet Qu Yuan of the Warring States Period. He committed suicide by drowning himself in a river because he was disgusted by the corruption of the Chu government. The local people, knowing him to be a good man, decided to throw food into the river to feed the fishes to prevent them from eating Qus body. In the early years of the Chinese Republic, Duan Wu was also celebrated as "Poets Day", due to Qu Yuans status as Chinas first poet of personal renown.

时间可以没收我一些记忆，但它，没收不了，它就是端午节。因为在那一天，有美味的粽子，有屈原浓浓的爱国之情……在战国时期，楚国大夫屈原因苦劝楚王无果，报国无望，忧愤而投江自尽了。楚国百姓知道后十分悲痛，为了纪念这位成为清正的大夫，把糯米捏成团投入江中，希望鱼儿吃了糯米而不吃屈原的尸身，因怕蛟龙所食，就拿楝叶包裹好，拿绳子绑上。此做法逐渐演化成了“端午节”。

奶奶可是包粽子能手。奶奶总是娴熟地把粽子卷成斗状，放入浸泡了3个小时的糯米，接着放入咸蛋，五花肉，红豆等，放好之后再盛一些糯米来填满，用粽叶包裹好，在用绳子捆紧打结，一个似小山的粽子就包好了。过了不久，就包了许多各形各色的粽子，接下来放入锅中蒸，蒸几个小时就好了！在粽子还没有煮好时，肚子早已饿得咕噜噜着在叫了，我拍拍肚皮，说：“肚子啊！你在忍一下哈，马上就煮好了，别在叫了。”，刚说完好像就更饿了，好像有许多虫子在咬我的胃，难受！

粽子一蒸好，我立马掀开锅盖，顿时空气中飘着让人无法抵御的棕香，就就连蒸粽子的开水好像在和我抗我抗议：“这么香的粽子不让我蒸久一会儿。”我早已盯得口水直流了，下意识就拿起一个最大最香的粽子，急忙解开绳子，帮它脱掉了它那翠绿的绿“衣裳”，再撒上似雪花一般的糖点缀着，一个美妙艺术作品就展示在眼前了……我迫不及待地咬下去，嗯，糯米的软、鸭蛋黄的咸、与糖的甜，这三者融合在一起，那味道妙不可言！我三两下就吃完了，回味无穷，唇齿留香，大大的满足！
