The Great Wall of China

The Great Wall of China is called the "Ten thousand Ii Great Wall" in Chinese. In fact, it s more than 6 000 kilometres long. It winds its way from west to east, across deserts, over mountains, through valleys till at last it reaches the sea. It is one of the wonders of the world.

The Great Wall has a history of over twenty centuries. The first part of it was built during the Spring and Autumn Period. During the Warring States Period, more walls were put up to defend the borders of the different kingdoms. It was during the Qin Dynasty that the kingdom of Qin united the dif ferent parts into one empire. To keep the enemy out of his empire, Emperor Qin Shi Huang had all the walls joined up. Thus, the Great Wall came into being.

The Great Wall is wide enough at the top for five horses or ten men to walk side by side. Along the wall are watchtowers, where soldiers used to keep watch. Fires were lit on the the towers as a warning when the enemy came.

It was very difficult to build such a wall in the ancient days without any modern machines. All the work was done by hand. Thousands of men died and were buried under the wall they built. The Great Wall was made not only of stone and earth, but of the flesh and blood of millions of men.

Today the Great Wall has become a place of interest not only to the Chinese but to people from all over the world. Many of them have come to know the famous Chinese saying: "He who does not reach the Great Wall is not a true man."

1、反复诵读，品味韵律

诵读，是对语言的最直接的感知，是品味语言的最好手段。而诗歌，一般都具备旋律、节奏、押韵这三个韵律要素，适宜诵读。古代诗人很讲究在“吟咏之间，吐纳珠玉之声”，诗的语言要在朗诵时顺口流畅，欣赏时悦耳动听，要富有抑扬顿挫、起伏迭宕的韵律美和流畅回环的音乐感。作为鉴赏者也要从诗歌的音韵与节奏中，体会出其中的音乐美。

2、抓关键词，推敲语言.

诗是精炼的语言，一句话乃至一个字，里面蕴藏着深厚的旨趣，所以诗家以一字称工，刻意锤炼，以求其精深。对诗歌的炼字进行推敲，从而品味语言的隽美。动词、形容词、数量词、叠词等都是关键词。

二、鉴赏形象

1、捕捉意象，体察诗情

“意”是作者表达的中心，寄托的思想、情感;“象”是具象，具体可感的事物。“意象”合指作家头脑中所形成的客观形象和主观情趣的有机融合，也指表现在作品里的、包含着主观思想情趣的具体形象。如《我爱这土地》中的“鸟”、“土地”、“河流”、“风”、“黎明”等就是寄予作者丰富的思想感情的具体可感的事物，即为意象。诗歌是抒情的，除了少数直接抒情，大多数都要为情感抒发找个可代表、可象征、可寄托的具体的“象”。要体味诗情就必须解开意象。因此把握意象是真正解读诗歌的第一步。

把握意象，必须在利用已知的基础上初步把握诗歌的风格、情感基调。诗人描写的图景是与其思想感情和谐统一的，美景当然流露喜爱之情，但情哀之时美景含泪，如“感时花溅泪”;心凉之时美景却又倍受诘问，如“念桥边红药，年年知为谁生?”这里的意象“花”“红药”所含的情感就是很清楚的了。

2、调动想象，领略意境

意境，是文艺作品中所描绘的自然或生活的图景(“境”)与作者的思想感情(“意”)相融合而形成的一种艺术境界，一种和谐而广阔的、能够诱发鉴赏者丰富想象并从而获得美的享受的艺术境界。

三、鉴赏感情

诗歌是抒情言志的文体，鉴赏时，须深切体会诗歌的感情内涵。可以通过诗歌的形象、意境中把握它所要暗示和启迪读者的东西来体会作者的情感。

1、知人论世，找准情感

欣赏任何一首诗歌，总要对它的作者和它所诞生的时代有一个初步的了解，诗歌是一定时代生活的反映，理解诗歌的感情不能忽略时代的特征。同一题材的作品，由于诗人的理想志趣、生活经历，所处时代不同，会表现出不同的思想感情。否则，我们的欣赏就是盲目的，甚至是歪曲的。要领会情感美，知人论世是第一步。同时，从创作规律来看，诗人平时积淀的情感要受到某种契机的触发，才能演绎成章，把自己的情感倾泻在字里行间，这种契机就是情感突破口。找准情感突破口也是把握诗歌旨趣、领会情感美的有效方法。激发诗人写作灵感的情感突破口可以是一个人，也可以是一种事物、一次经历或一个念头。

一些诗歌的思想情感是通过诗歌形象的比喻、象征意义来体现的。理解这类诗歌的思想感情，首先要准确把握形象的内涵，进而展开联想和想象加深对感情的理解，要避免形象把握上的实指性。 理解诗歌的感情还要顾及诗歌的体裁、风格、流派等因素。现实主义诗歌和浪漫主义诗歌在感情表达上就有区别，豪放派词和婉约派词表达的思想感情也有不同。

Table Manners

The main difference between Chinese and western eating habits is that unlike the West, where everyone has their own plate of food, in China the dishes are placed on the table and everybody shares. If you are being treated by a Chinese host, be prepared for a ton of food. Chinese are very proud of their culture of cuisine and will do their best to show their hospitality.

And sometimes the Chinese host use their chopsticks to put food in your bowl or plate. This is a sign of politeness. The appropriate thing to do would be to eat the whatever-it-is and say how yummy it is. If you feel uncomfortable with this, you can just say a polite thank you and leave the food there.

Eating No-nos

Dont stick your chopsticks upright in the rice bowl.Instead,lay them on your dish. The reason for this is that when somebody dies,the shrine to them contains a bowl of sand or rice with two sticks of incense stuck upright in it. So if you stick your chopsticks in the rice bowl, it looks like this shrine and is equivalent to wishing death upon a person at the table!

Make sure the spout of the teapot is not facing anyone. It is impolite to set the teapot down where the spout is facing towards somebody. The spout should always be directed to where nobody is sitting, usually just outward from the table.
