The 15-Day Celebration of Chinese New Year

The first day of the Lunar New Year is the welcoming of the gods of the heavens and earth.Many people abstain from meat on the first day of the new year because it is believed that this will ensure long and happy lives for them.

On the second day, the Chinese pray to their ancestors as well as to all the gods. They are extra kind to dogs and feed them well as it is believed that the second day is the birthday of all dogs.

The third and fourth days are for the sons-in-laws to pay respect to their parents-in-law.

The fifth day is called Po Woo. On that day people stay home to welcome the God of Wealth. No one visits families and friends on the fifth day because it will bring both parties bad luck.

On the sixth to the 10th day, the Chinese visit their relatives and friends freely. They also visit the temples to pray for good fortune and health.

The seventh day of the New Year is the day for farmers to display their produce. These farmers make a drink from seven types of vegetables to celebrate the occasion. The seventh day is also considered the birthday of human beings. Noodles are eaten to promote longevity and raw fish for success.

On the eighth day the Fujian people have another family reunion dinner, and at midnight they pray to Tian Gong, the God of Heaven.

The ninth day is to make offerings to the Jade Emperor.

The 10th through the 12th are days that friends and relatives should be invited for dinner. After so much rich food, on the 13th day you should have simple rice congee and mustard greens (choi sum) to cleanse the system.

The 14th day should be for preparations to celebrate the Lantern Festival which is to be held on the 15th night.

盼星星，盼月亮，终于盼到了我最喜欢得一年一度的元宵节，我别提有多高兴。

正月十五晚上，美丽的灯光，陪伴着我和妈妈一起来到了“安定广场”，刚走到那里，就听到一片嘈杂声，一眼望去，人流如潮，每个人脸上都洋溢着欢乐的笑容，许多孩子手上拿着漂亮的花灯，头上戴着头灯，到处是一片灯的海洋。

我和妈妈挤进了人群，来到了买花灯的地方，哇！真是五花八门，五颜六色的，让人眼花缭乱。“今年的花灯，还真是漂亮啊！”妈妈感叹道。

我仔细地端详着，品种非常的繁多，有“年年有鱼”、“子鼠贺岁”、“荷花灯”……，数都数不过来，看那边栩如生的青蛇，露出了大大的眼睛，蛇身上还刻上了漂亮的条纹，蛇身和蛇尾圈缩在一起，好似一只小蛇正在冬眠呢！

因为今年是我的本命年“蛇年”，所以我特别留意各种各样的蛇灯，突然的眼睛一亮，瞧见了一个很特别的花灯，头上是一个卡通版的蛇头，下半身是用纸做成了得圆鼓鼓的肚子，从“肚子”里点亮蜡烛，光芒璀璨而热烈，让我油然而生，有一种对生活充满希望的憧憬与向往。

妈妈好象看出了我的心思，和蔼地对我说：“如果你喜欢这个，就买下吧！”我好感激，拿着这条可爱的“小蛇”，可真是欢天喜地……

瞧！前面的灯摊前聚满了人，我非常的好奇，快步上前探了探脑袋，噢！原来是在买面罩，周围已经有好几个女孩儿，都带上面罩了，可真漂亮。我心里既羡慕又喜欢，可是，手上已经有心爱的花灯了，我抑制了自己的心情，依依不舍地走开了。

在不远处，耳边传来了一阵阵喧闹声，我们闻声赶去，“哇塞！好大。”我惊讶地看到有位身强力壮的大伯拖拉着一个巨型兔灯，在兔灯的两旁还有两个人在护卫着，害怕被别人破坏。紧跟着是一个超大型的蛇灯，不知是哪些能工巧匠们把它装扮得如此生动，踮脚望去，后面还有好几个气势磅礴的巨型灯，场面非常得壮观，路旁的人都赞叹不已。

“呯”得一声巨响，我吓了一跳，所有人的目光似乎都齐刷刷地转离到了天空，一朵朵绽放的烟花腾空而起，哇，好美的夜空呀！只见深蓝色的天空布满了五彩斑斓的烟花，开放的烟花如一个个彩球，似一朵朵雪花，像一颗颗拖着彩带的流星，把漆黑的夜空照得如同白昼一样，把元宵之夜变得无比美丽，我简直被迷住了！

欢天喜地闹元宵，我还久久地沉浸在这种热闹的气氛当中……
