Yuandan is the first day of the lunar calendar. It is the day when the earth has circled the sun for one round and is beginning another circling. It represents a new beginning when people send off the old days and welcome the new ones. As the first day of the year, Yuandan has been considered to be the most important festival since the ancient times.

Customs

1. Kaisui(beginning of the year): According to the Chinese traditional custom, starting from haishi(9p.m. to 11p.m.)of the last evening of the twelfth lunar month, each family must prepare offering s to deities at the altar. At the same time, they too prepare food for the New Year day: The whole family will then stay awake together to attend to the year(called shou sui). After haishi, zishi(11p.m. to 1a.m.)will come, and this is the arrival of New Year(Yuandan). At this moment, people begin the celebration with fireworks. Vegetarian and sweet foods will then be placed are the altar for offerings, and incense be burned to welcome the deities. In the ancient times, it was believed that haishi connected the two years and thus was called kaisui.

At the same night, some families will follow the instruction in Tongshu and place preparing altar in the direction of the "fortune deity" during the "fortune time" to receive the deity. If the direction of the "fortune deity" is at the "ill position", people will choose to receive "happy deity" or "noble deity" instead.

2. There is an apparent difference in the custom of food taking on Yuandan between the Chinese in the northern and southern regions. The northern Chinese has the habit of taking jiao zi(dumpling made of flour with vegetable and meat wrapped inside). Some people may put a sweet or a coin inside jiao zi, hoping to have a sweet year after tasting the sweet and a wealthy year after tasting the coin. on the other hand, the southern Chinese have the taboo for killing on Yuandan. Therefore, they do not take meat in tee morning of Yuandan, so as to avoid bloodshed or mutual slaughter. In order to evade misfortune, they have the first meal of this day without meat. Instead, they take vegetarian food for the sake of virtue.

3. What is special during the New Year is that parents or elders will distribute red packets(ang pao or ya sui qian)to the children. People in the ancient times were more particular in giving away the red packets: the distribution took place on the eve of New Year so that the kids could suppress the past year and enter the New Year. Ya sui has the meaning of overcoming the unpredictable future. Representing the wishes for the healthy psychological growth of the children, ya sui qian symbolises the elders hope to see their children overcome all the unpredictable elements brought by the "year".

晚上，就剩下自己家的人了。在看春节联欢晚会之前，是我最期待的时候：收压岁钱。恭喜发财，红包拿来!大舅舅一个，小舅舅一个，外婆一个大家都忙活完了，该坐下来休息休息了，于是，我们便团聚在一起看春节联欢晚会。边看边聊，仿佛话总也说不完似的。总算熬到12点了，午夜烟花快燃放了!轰!一个礼炮打响了，天空顿时蒙上了一件五彩斑斓的彩衣。随着第一个礼炮的打响，各家不约而同地放出了各种款式的烟花，每一家的屋顶上都挂上了一个美丽的帽子。放烟花的声音震耳欲聋，五彩的烟花使我眼花缭乱。我和大舅妈跑到楼顶上观看烟花，我兴奋得直跳：我这次苦熬到12点真是没白费，这真是太壮观了!午夜放烟花，有可能是每个地方都有的习俗，有可能是我们家乡特有的一种习俗，但都一样，我见识到了，你们也听说了!

这天，是初一，才刚起来，就听见门外一阵拜年声：给您老拜年了啊!哎!来了来了，新年快乐!新年快乐!这时候，外婆正忙着做早餐，外公则正忙着招呼人。坐一下吧啊不了不了。这样的对话总会听见很多次。我赶紧吃完早餐和小舅舅他们出门了。小舅舅的双胞胎女儿紫依和紫芊各提着一个袋子，每到一处袋子里的东西就会增加一点，可高兴坏她们了。所谓的拜年呢，就是挨家挨户地走动，有时候会在哪一家坐一会儿，聊聊天什么的。而小孩子就提着个袋子去拜糖。声明一下啊，我可没有哦!

扭秧歌对我来说既熟悉，又陌生。熟悉的是，妈妈经常提到他;陌生的是，我从来没见过。

俗话说：百闻不如一见。去年春节，我有机会看到了它，那场面可真够壮观的，使我终身难忘。正月初一的早上，妈妈带我去逛地坛庙会。庙会上，卖的东西可真不少。光是吃的就有七八十种，什么驴打滚，艾窝窝。让人看了真要垂涎三尺了。庙会里不仅东西多，尔且人也特多。远远看去，人群就像一团乱麻缠在一起似的，黑压压的一片。忽然，我发现东北角的人最多，人们紧紧挨在一起。

我好不容易才挤进去。往前一看，嘿!这是什么真棒。只见广场上几位老爷爷和老奶奶，身穿红色的服装走摆摆步。衣服上挂着一条红段子，腰上系着一只鼓。随着鼓不停的敲，翩翩起舞。脚步随着鼓点越跳越快，最后想飞起来一样。场面十分壮观。

这时，妈妈挤了进来，对我说：佳欣，这是扭秧歌。是啊。孩子。这时，一位老爷爷搭上话，扭秧歌在你出生前就不演了，你是第一次看吧我轻轻点点头。老爷爷继续说：要不是十一届三中全会号召我们继承民族文化，可能你们这辈人尽看不着他了。听着这位纯朴憨厚的北京老汉的一番话，看着扭秧歌，我的心中泛起了一阵阵的波澜，久久不能平静。我在想：中国扭秧歌和许多其他民族文艺，都是我国民族艺术的珍品，如果人们一味的去追求洋玩意尔把我们自己的艺术珍品扔掉，那多可惜啊!

扭秧歌不但是中国的土产，而且它显示着中华民族的气魄，把奋进的精神带给我们每个人，我们一定要继承他，发扬它。

春节是我们中国农历的新年，所以过年对我们中国人而言非常重要的!因此，春节前的准备也是必不可少的。

过年了!过年了!家家户户忙着贴春联，剃头发，做年夜饭要做的事情太多了，而且规矩太多了!有些习俗还很怪，无奈之下，我就去问正在贴春联的妈妈。

我看见妈妈将福字倒着贴，我固然知道为什么要倒着贴，将‘福’字倒着贴是一种习俗，‘福’倒贴说明‘福’倒(到)了!但我仍然问道：过年有什么习俗和规矩啊妈妈停下手中的活，耐心地给我谈起来。原来，以前过年还有一种放鞭炮的习俗，来源于年兽的故事。很久以前有一只年兽，长期居住深海底，到了除夕就跃出海面到处作恶。有一年一个老人用放炮，穿红衣，贴红春联的方法驱赶走年兽，这才得以平静，此后这个方法就流传开来。但是现在广州禁止燃放烟花爆竹，所以我们就不再进行这个活动了。

除夕这一天对我国来说是极为重要的。这天晚上，我们全家准备除旧迎新，吃团年饭。吃年夜饭，是春节家家户户最热闹愉快的时候。大年夜.丰盛的年菜摆满一桌，全家团聚，围坐桌旁，共吃团圆饭。人们既是享受满桌的佳肴，也是享受那份快乐的气氛，桌上有鸡、鹅、烧肉等等，一般少不了两样东西，一是火锅，一是鱼。火锅热气腾腾，说明红红火火;鱼和余谐音，喻意年年有余。最后一道甜食，祝福往后的日子甜甜蜜蜜。

我又发问：“那为什么要大扫除呢？”爸爸说：“大扫除是为了扫除一年的晦气！这是好兆头！”“那为什么送礼全送橘子啊？”我又不懂了。“这是因为啊，橘子的‘橘’字与‘桔’意思相同，而‘桔’和‘吉’又很相近，大家在新春佳节用橘子相互馈赠求个大吉大利！”“原来如此！”爸爸又说：“还有‘接财神’这一习俗。正月初五是财神的生日，在财神生日到来的前一天的晚上，各家各户办酒席，为财神爷过生日。”我这才全明白。

今天我知道了很多过年习俗的知识，不过我觉得太迷信了！但这又仿佛是一种乐趣，只要快乐就好！何必迷信不迷信？

过怎样一个年才有趣呢?大吃大喝?每天看电影?每天和小伙伴玩?还是……这样好像有点糊里糊涂过日子的感觉。我东看看，西望望。我突然眼睛一亮，发现我们家的窗户很脏很脏，脏得就像被灰尘穿上了一层厚厚的皮袄。妈妈测过头来，没精打采地对我说：“清洁公司大部分人都回去过年了!现在预约时间又长，而且价格又高啊。”看着妈妈满脸不高兴的样子，我灵机一动，歪着脖子，对妈妈说：“让我们一起做清洁工，来搞卫生。这个钱就不给他们赚了，让我来做你的小助手吧!”

成交!妈妈立刻提了一桶水，我跟随尾后拿了一块抹布，走向窗台。我绞干抹布递给妈妈。妈妈开始，上擦擦。下擦擦。左擦擦。右擦擦……我叉腰着腰，装着老师的样，给妈妈做了个点评：“擦得总体还不错，就是有些角落还得再下点功夫。”妈妈偷偷一笑，“是，小张老师!”妈妈突然看到地上的一滩水，严厉的对我说：“你别再给我帮倒忙了，去把自己的书房打扫打扫。把书本归归类。”

我立马走向书房，开始动工。我自言自语地说：“课外书放第一档，学习的书放第二档……”我和妈妈一边搞卫生，一边聊天。妈妈趁我不注意的时候，偷偷跑过来瞄了我一眼，我也趁妈妈不注意的时候偷偷看了一眼。

经过几个小时的辛勤劳动，家里被我们母子两人整得干干净净，迎接新年地到来。

不知不觉就过年了啊。家家户户都贴上了对联，当然，我家也是。我们家的邻居自己剪了两个可爱的窗花送给了我们，我把它们都贴在了窗户上，远远望去，还挺漂亮呢。

过年的时候，一家人团团圆圆的坐在一起吃饭，有说有笑的，好开心哪。当然最令人兴奋不已的时刻还是发压岁钱的时候，哈哈。那钱源源不断的进了我的钱包，(不知道的可能以为我是个财迷，嘿嘿，实话说，有一点点啦。)但是我最希望的还是今年我家可以财源滚滚哦。

过年嘛，当然是免不了要放烟花爆竹的，晚上，我坐在院子里看美丽的烟花在空中绽放，然后瞬间消失，好美啊。

我希望每天都过年，那我的压岁钱就多得花不完啦。哈哈~
