Here the sky and the sea clearly meet on the horizon. When standing at the top of the Sunshine Rock, you can see much of the landscape of Xiamen, and when standing at its foot, you can gaze at the beautiful garden that surrounds it.

Gulangyu produces bananas, coconuts, sugar cane and so on. The people here, warm, simple and hardworking, are making every effort to make the island more beautiful and they hope to welcome more visitors in the future.

My most anticipated day —— the Spring Festival finally came, because in this festival, we children have good food to eat, new clothes to wear, lucky money to spend, and little friends to play。 What makes me happy is to give the people a new year。

At the three or four oclock of the first day of the year, I could not wait to hurry Dad up。 Our custom is on the first day of the new year, when the owner of the family opens the door and sells the rice, so I cant wait to finish the reunion tea。 After that, I find several convenient bags and I cant wait to get ready to go。 Mom jokingly said: "the family bought so many delicious, you are not the only cat to eat!" Oh! Mom, how can you understand the mind of the son, I dont give the people a new year to give them a new years blessing! I went to the village of West swiftly, and had been waiting there buddy confluence, began to give folks pay New Years call。

I first came to Uncle Lis house。 Uncle Li was a farmer, and he went on the road of wealth by planting vegetables in the shed。 I wish he: "spring maestro! The vegetables grow well and the price is long! " Uncle Li was hastily stuffed envelopes, shengqingnanque, had received。 I went to the Mason Zhang Shushu home, they are a cup of tea, I wish them good health。 "! Good luck in everything, money such as the brick wall, the more the higher the stack!" Aunt Wang was grinning, gave me a full of candy。 Then I went to Yang grandmother, wish her good health, a long life "! The more alive the more spiritual! " She was happy off teeth, I also follow the music open arms。 In this way, I sent my family from door to door to the people of the new year。 My pocket is full of red envelopes and all the handy bags are full。

After I pay New Years call, and buddies joined together at Home Xu Xu Grandpa, grandpa is an old revolutionary soldier, his four brothers are in the Anti Japanese war in the glorious sacrifice, he also because of the war and lost a leg, could not get married this year, 90 year old Xu Grandpa, lonely and helpless to sit down on the bed, and my buddies to him after, his money gave him a total of two thousand yuan。 We also classified the peanut melon candy in the bag and put it on Grandpa Xus bed。 Grandpa Xu was moved to tears and thanked us。 In fact, we should thank the old revolutionary soldiers such as Grandpa Xu, without their throwing head and blood, which has our life so stable and happy today。

The winter holiday was over, and the celebration of the Spring Festival was close to the end。 I think it was one of the most meaningful things I did during the Spring Festival。

Dear Father Christmas,

So my friend has asked me to write to you... I have to confess its been

hard to know what to say. Mainly because like most adults I feel preposterous

asking anything of you because our time with you is surely done. Now we get our

own presents, control our own fates, take responsibility for our own actions,

and live in the world we have created... so its not for us to turn around and

plead for your help with the environment, the migrant crisis, the NHS,

education, food banks, human rights, fundamentalism and wars. Though God knows

we need all the help we can get with all these man-made problems and more.

And its not that you arent compassionate and full of joy. Youre great.

In spite of you being changed into different colours for corporations and being

bastardised to represent materialism gone mad - despite probably originating in

some season based pagan druid ritual a million thought miles from requests for

spontaneously combusting hoverboards... Kidadults cynically pointing this out

after having their moment of belief in you are wasting everyones precious time.

Because you are not for them. You are for the children. Children who need some

magic in a world where the borders between innocence and responsibility, playful

imagination and cold, adult obstacles are continually shrinking.

This is what Id like to ask you to help with. A little more time for

children to be children. Stretch the moment of magic and playfulness. Distract

them from the realities of a world gone mad so that they can laugh with their

breath rather than sob with their tears. Especially those caring for family

members, or suffering illness, hunger or poverty. Especially those hiding in

buildings as bombs rain down, or being handed shaking with fear or cold into a

boat to escape environmental disaster or war. Please help to light up their

worlds with a moment of joy and hope.

When I think about it youve got it tough this year... And when I really

think about it Im not sure that asking you for a lightsaber and getting one

(not that I ever did by the way) is equatable with controlling the space time

continuum and making the good of childhood last a little longer.

But you do inspire wonder and awe amongst those that write you letters and

go to sleep hoping there might be a new object in their possession come dawn.

You inspire good behaviour and, at least in my memory, some desperate last

minute attempts to redeem bad behaviour so as not to be overlooked. Spare a

thought too for those millions who want to write to you but through illiteracy

cant. Hear their words and help to give them the time and chance to learn how

to read and write so they can better their lives and escape their impoverished

beginnings.

I feel a little sorry for you. And I guess Ive done exactly what I said I

wouldnt... Asked you to help with adult problems and solve some of the greatest

worries we have for our children. I promise to leave some extra port and mince

pies for you!

Lots of love

Benedict

My father, Winston Churchill, began his love affair with painting in his 40s, amid disastrous circumstances. As First Lord of the Admiralty in 1915, he was deeply involved in a campaign in the Dardanelles that could have shortened the course of a bloody world war. But when the mission failed, with great loss of life, Churchill paid the price, both publicly and privately. He was removed from the admiralty and effectively sidelined.

Overwhelmed by the catastrophe — “I thought he would die of grief,” said his wife, Clementine —he retired with his family to Hoe Farm, a country retreat in Surrey. There, as Churchill later recalled, “The muse of painting came to my rescue!”

Wandering in the garden one day, he chanced upon his sister-in-law sketching with watercolors. He watched her for a few minutes, then borrowed her brush and tried his hand. The muse had cast her spell!

Churchill soon decided to experiment with oils. Delighted with this distraction from his dark broodings, Clementine rushed off to buy whatever paints she could find.

For Churchill, however, the next step seemed difficult as he contemplated with unaccustomed nervousness the blameless whiteness of a new canvas. He started with the sky and later described how “very gingerly I mixed a little blue paint on the palette, and then with infinite precaution made a mark about as big as a bean upon the affronted snow-white shield. At that moment the sound of a motor car was heard in the drive. From this chariot stepped the gifted wife of Sir John Lavery .”

“ ‘Painting!’ she declared. ‘But what are you hesitating about? Let me have the brush — the big one.’ Splash into the turpentine, wallop into the blue and the white, frantic flourish on the palette, and then several fierce strokes and slashes of blue on the absolutely cowering canvas.”

At that time, John Lavery— a Churchill neighbor and celebrated painter— was tutoring Churchill in his art. Later, Lavery said of his unusual pupil: “Had he chosen painting instead of statesmanship, I believe he would have been a great master with the brush.”

In painting, Churchill had discovered a companion with whom he was to walk for the greater part of the years that remained to him. After the war, painting would offer deep solace when, in 1921, the death of the mother was followed two months later by the loss of his and Clementine’s beloved three-year-old daughter, Marigold. Battered by grief, Winston took refuge at the home of friends in Scotland, finding comfort in his painting. He wrote to Clementine: “I went out and painted a beautiful river in the afternoon light with crimson and golden hills in the background. Alas I keep feeling the hurt of the Duckadilly (Marigold’s pet name).”

Historians have called the decade after 1929, when the Conservative government fell and Winston was out of office, his wilderness years. Politically he may have been wandering in barren places, a lonely fighter trying to awaken Britain to the menace of Hitler, but artistically that wilderness bore abundant fruit. During these years he often painted in the South of France. Of the 500-odd canvases extant, roughly 250 date from 1930 to 1939.

Painting remained a joy to Churchill to the end of his life. “Happy are the painters,” he had written in his book Painting as a Pastime, “ for they shall not be lonely. Light and color, peace and hope, will keep them company to the end of the day.” And so it was for my father.

What is the taste of home? Before I lodge in school dormitory, I never think of this question. But, now I know what the taste of home is as I have lived in school for a month. I miss the delicious food cooked by my mother and her endless chatter. My father sits in the middle of the hall watching TV. The fight between my two younger brothers and the ice cream in the refrigerator make me feel warm. All these make a house a family. And it is the taste of home in my mind.

Dear parents,

“You always say that I am naive. In your eyes, I am always the little girl who will never grow up”. This is my favorite song and also the sound from the bottom of my heart. You made me feel so lucky to be your child. But I find our hearts getting further apart as time goes by.

You strictly forbid me to do entertaining activities even if I finished my homework, such as watching TV or playing computer games. Based on this, I couldn’t get any grade less than A. It is said that genius only means hard-working all one’s life. But I think combining exertion is the best way for learning.

The most important thing to me was that I feel frustrated for having few friends to confide in due to your strict rules. I can’t have a play date, participate in a school play or even choose my own extracurricular activities. Who will accept such a boring and troublesome person? I am just an ordinary girl who can’t stand loneliness, so I always feel contradictory.

On the one hand, I’m grateful to have you in my life, to disappoint you was the least I would do. On the other hand, what you asked for me made me felt like a puppet rather than a real person. I appreciated your efforts to pull me away from a self-indulgent life, but your obsessively extravagant strictness has pushed me into an isolated and insensible one. I need a little freedom so that I will concentrate on something I really interested in.

Father and mother, these words were hid in my deep heart for a long time. I love you, and I believe if you change some harsh rules. I will have a wonderful life.

Best wishes.

Yours, daughter

Youth comes only once in a lifetime, therefore, it is important that we

should not waste those years in idleness and bad living.

This is also the time when our memories are best.We are able to learn more

during this time than when we become older. During our younger years, we have

the enthusiasm to set high goals for ourselves. We also try to overcome

obstacles which are placed in our way.

If we realize how precious youth is, we will be fulfilled when we are young

as well as when we are older. If we waste our youth, we will spend the rest of

our lives wishing we could be young again.
