Dear Mr. Wang,

Thank you for taking the time to write your wonderful letter in support of MCEA (Maywood Chinese Education Association). Your letter clearly articulates all the major reasons children in Maywood will benefit from studying the Chinese language as part of their elementary school education. It provides invaluable support that will help making bilingual Chinese education a reality in Maywood public schools.

Although MCEA would like to see Palo Alto public schools implement the first bilingual Chinese kindergarten class in September of 2006, we have learned that the school district must take the time to understand how a new program will affect existing educational offerings, and to validate community interest. Nevertheless, MCEA, with more than 70 members, will continue to actively promote bilingual Chinese education in the Palo Alto public schools and will keep you apprised of the progress we make.

I am highly disappointed in the proposed 2004-05 budget cuts to educa1ion.

Taking away basic aid status and slashing our school budgets is a recipe for

educational disaster in our school. The future lies with our children. They must

have access to high quality educa1ion.

My husband and I have worked hard to be able to live in a school district

that provides high quality education for our children. Cutting funding in

districts like ours will have a negative impact on property values.

The school that my daughter attends is hardly wha1 I would describe as a

"rich" school. Parents are asked to pay for books for all the classes, science

supplies and for their students to participate in the performing arts among

other items. If our school is to remain a world leader in technological

development, cutting our school funds is the worst possible choice to make.

Education funds should not be diverted away from education.

How to learn English well

English is important and useful to us. How can we learn it well? Here are

my suggestions.

First, we should often listen to the tapes, English songs and programs.

Watching English movies is also helpful to us. Second, we should speak English

in class as much as possible. Don’t be afraid of making mistakes. The more you

speak, the fewer mistakes you’ll make. Wed better join the English club and

practice with others. Third, we can read more English newspapers and magazines.

It’s good for us. At last, we should recite some good passages and keep

diaries.

In a word, as long as we do more listening, speaking, reading and writing,

we will learn English well.

I watched television late last night so I woke up late. My mother asked me

人们总是自诩自己永远比人工智能更前沿，可总是会担忧其有一日会如人类一样拥有思想。可真正令人担忧的不该是这种情况，而是若有一日人类如计算机一般思考，我们该如何是好？

想象一下，大脑变成了计算机的主机，装满零件，填满符号。当突发事件降临，我们不假思索地开始搜索资料，永不休止地开始计算，旨在找到最完美的公式，完成解决方案。听上去竟很炫酷，可是再想想，这方案会尽如人意么？

举个简单不过的例子，是人们多少略有耳闻的题目：若有3个水果，却有4个人要分，该如何处理？

计算机的“大脑”立即开始计算，会在短时间内告诉你，仅需一个人分四分之三个水果即可。

人类的大脑同时开始思考，但其会先如计算机一般思考，很快也将排除这个答案。他们思考了良久，才得出结论：将水果炸成汁，平分给4人。

相比较而言，人类的思考过程需要比计算机多很多时间，但能得出比计算机更适宜的方案。两者利弊皆有，只是人类获得了最终胜利。

计算机的眼中只有最快捷，最有利益的解决方案，但其往往会忽略一些人类才拥有的珍贵情感与思想，罔顾造成的一切后果。

星期六上午，我们约好来到教室，开始设计黑板报。可是两个小时快过去了，黑板上仍旧一片黑，没有一丁点儿色彩。在一番挖空心思之后，我们终于设计出了报头、边框。可是画完以后大家才发现，报头一点也不美观，线条又很粗糙，板块之间有的地方密集，有的地方稀疏，很不协调。大家不得不又加工、修改甚至重新再来。苦干了一上午，总算是基本完成了。

下午我们又设计起了艺术橱窗，整个下午只完成了三分之一。然而第二天下午再次来到学校时，我们才发现前一天的作品很不美观，于是又重新开始布置。花了整整一天半的时间，我们才将一块黑板，两块橱窗全部布置完了。

如果，单纯的管理学生，那将是肤浅的。教育者，还应该有对学生成长的引导作用。

管理，是教师对学生的永恒的话题。在很多的时候，管理成为了我们教师、学生之间最重要的内容。更有三分教，七分管的说法，将教师的管理提高到较高的境界。面对学生的不遵守纪律情况，很多教师严格管理，如狂风暴雨般的批评扑面而来，骤然能够使班内的纪律好转很多。但是，这种纪律好转的情况是迫于班主任老师的威严。于是，在这种理论基础下，很多学校班主任的选择就选择那些能够威吓住学生的老师。这样的结果，本也无可厚非。这也充分反映了应试教育下相适应的管理特点：直接，见效快。

但仅有这些是远远不够的。让学生迫于压力下的自学，远不如学生主动地学习；让学生迫于压力下的遵守纪律，远不如学生能够自觉地遵守纪律。所以，在上面得基础上，还应该加上对学生的正面引导。这种正面的引导包括学习的目的、意义、方法等。但是，随着学生的知识面的扩大，单纯的说教已经不能适应学生的思想要求，必须适时的改变方法，用不同的方式来教育学生。在这里需要指出的是，绝对不能用说反话的方式来教育学生，来刺激学生的思维，学生很可能会按照你的反话去做。思想教育应该是学生直面的一个永恒的话题，是学生成长中的一个必须接受洗礼的蜕变过程。

所以，教师的责任应该不仅仅是管理学生，还应该教学学生更多的道理，教给学生成长中所必须的人文知识，让学生在学习的道路上逐渐的学会自己走路，走自己的路，走好属于自己的每一步。

据说，在英语流行开来的时候，许多欧洲人纷纷开始学习。目的很明确：读英语小说原文。一方面，这是一种审美的需求，另一方面，这也是社会阶层的划分依据：从此，身边的人分为两种，即能读英语小说原著的，和不能用英语阅读小说的人。在这样的目的驱使下，可想而知学习效率会如何之高。

最近在学习英国文学史，下载了海量的英美小说和诗歌。可以这么说，不读小说，不知英文的精妙，不读诗歌，不知英文的优雅与靓丽。

当下国人学习英语的目标，个人认为，不是纯粹的审美层面的。或是为了高考、大学英语四六级之类的等级考试，或是为了留学考试。真正静下心来，读一首英文诗歌，或许你会爱上英文的。

可以说，我的英语学习是为“雪耻”，小学的时候英语考试睁眼瞎，题都读不懂。到了初中，凭借优秀的语文和数学成绩，进入了英语实验班——是的，有一些滑稽。于是，在老师的悉心、严格的教学下，在我的努力下，英语终于按部就班地提高起来。中考英语以146分位居年级第一，进入了理想的直升班。

现在回想起来，简单的动机，为我打下了坚实的英语基础。当时，最开心的事情，就是每周的英语考试，可以读到新鲜热辣的时文。

不过，与那些英语原版世界名著相比，英语说明文就显得黯然失色了。当然，那些来自于《时代》周刊的英文消息，是很值得玩味的。至今记得那篇略显晦涩的对乔伊斯《尤利西斯》的报道。

在我的生活中，有许许多多的人们值得我们去争当，更有许许多多的梦想等着我们去实现。我要成为爱思考的人。我长大的梦想是当发明家，所以我现在学习机器人编程。

有一次，我兴高采烈地去上机器人课，一进教室，老师笑眯眯地和我们说：“同学们，开始上课了，今天我们搭建飞鹰。”

我立即陷入了沉思：我想鹰在飞翔的时候翅膀应该是上下拍打的，可是马达只能围绕着一个地方转动，不能上下动呀！我冥思苦想，突然眼睛一亮，想出了一个好主意。于是我拿出来教具，打开工具箱，我先拿出来马达、凸轮、马达直角和小构架板；接着我把马达和凸轮组合在一起；然后把凸轮的两个孔和马达直角的两个孔对接，用螺丝钉拧在一起；最后把小构架板也用螺丝钉和马达直角拧在一起。凸轮好比鹰的骨骼，小构建板好比鹰的翅膀，马达就是动力源，它带动凸轮和马达直角转动，然后马达直角把信号传递给了小构架板，使它上下摆动。

不一会儿，飞鹰终于搭建成功了，我看着我搭建的飞鹰，露出了满意的笑容。

爱思考可以使人聪明，可以解决问题，可以磨练意志，最主要的爱思考给我带来快乐和信心。

经历去年的习作起始，也希望同学们在新学年给自己制定一个更高的目标。吕老师也会稍微提高对大家的要求、标准。希望你们在新学年取得更大的进步。离自己的目标更近一步，并不断向成功迈进。

to China, they dont know about this country. What they learn is from the mass

media, the worse thing is that the media always report the negative sides. So

when they come to China and realize things are much funny here. Before we make

judgment, we need to search the overall information, or it is better for us to

pay a visit. The way we treat things decides what kind of person we are.

We all wish (hope) to be happy， so we should take good care of our

health。

Health is the best treasure (which) a man can possess。 Money can do many

things， but it cannot buy happiness。 However， so long as man has good health， he

can enjoy the pleasures of human life。

In order to insure good health we must pay attention to three things。 They

are-nourishing food， fresh air and proper exercise。
