The Duanwu or Dragon Boat Festival, generally celebrated on the fifth month of the Chinese lunar calender, falls on June 18 this year. It is one of the oldest festivals in China, with a history of more than 2,000 years. Legend holds that this festival is in memory of Qu Yuan, a patriotic poet during the Warring States Period.

盼呀!盼呀!终于盼到了我们村一年一度的赛龙舟了。 Hope! Look forward! Finally, we look forward to the annual dragon boat in our village.

农历五月初六是家乡的龙舟节。我刚吃过粽子，就和爸爸妈妈、哥哥一起来到潢涌河边看赛龙舟。河两岸人山人海。

下午2时，比赛开始了，龙舟随着鞭炮声起，来自各村的12条龙舟一字排开。锣鼓声霎时震耳欲聋。河两岸顿时沸腾起来，升空的气球、迎接的彩船、划过的龙船……构成了一幅绚丽多彩的图画。你们看呀!那些龙舟多么威风呀!像凯旋归来的胜利者。挠手们分别穿着红短衣、蓝短衣、黄短衣、白短衣、青短衣……头上绑了块白布，上面写了几个字——“奋斗!奋斗!努力奋斗!战胜困难!”他们如同军队一样威风。

比赛到了紧要关头，人们的心开始紧张起来，突然，从人群中爆发出一阵阵“下二村加油!下二村加油!”的呐喊声，我放眼看去，原来是下二村旗子的红队落后了，在观众的的支持下，挠手们更沉着了，拼命地划着，下二村龙船，迎着汹涌澎湃的浪花，“踏着”乘风破浪的强风，在潢涌大河上划出一条长长的水纹，冲上了前头，其它龙船也你不让我，我不让你，你追我赶。最后，下二村龙船一举夺冠。队员们团结合作的精神鼓舞广大群众。

据说，赛龙舟是为了纪念楚国大诗人——屈原的：屈原生活在春秋时代的战国时期，那时，七个皇帝各镇守一方,分别是：楚国、燕国、秦国、鲁国、齐国、魏国、赵国。其中，北方的秦国最为强大，虎视眈眈地想吞并其它六国，想成为中华民族的霸王，屈原推兼楚国与齐国合并攻击秦国，但是，昏庸的楚王不但不听的屈原劝告，还把屈原逐出楚国。

最后，楚国被秦国消亡了。屈原不任心看见楚国人民流离失所，就在农历五月初五胸中抱着沉甸甸的大石头跳到旧罗江自尽了。楚国人民听到这个消息后难以置信，纷纷划着小船去救他，又害怕旧罗江中小鱼伤害屈原的尸骨，所以，楚国人民用小竹筒装满糯米饭菜，希望江中小鱼不要伤害屈原的尸骨而吃楚国人民做的糯米饭菜。故事就是这样一代一代流传下来的。

赛龙舟需要队员们同心协力、奋力拼搏才能划得快，它宏扬了我们中华民族的优良传统美德，也发扬了我们中华民族的美好精神。难忘的端午节。

Before I made those silly mistakes, mother trusted me all the time.She regarded me as an honest kid.But I could never own her trust any more.How I regretted having lied to her!Here was one of the stupidmistakes Ive made. When we read newspapers, we often come across the wordPollution. This word was not familiar to the people some decades ago. But now, it is a serious threat to us because.it means the poisoning of the air, seas, rivers and lands, which would do harm to our health.

There are many factories that bring pollution to us. We can not have fresh air in the morning. This is mainly because of the poisonous smoke coming from factories, especially chemical ones. In rivers, seas and oceans, there are industrial wastes. Some factories just throw their wastes into seas or let them flow into rivers. When people drink the water from such rivers, they get poisoned. Besides, there is rubbish from ships and when sometimes an accident occurs in an ocean, oil flows out from tankers.

On land, the accumulation of rubbish in the streets may dirty the city and ruin our health. This is mainly due to the improper disposal of rubbish by people.

If we do mot fight against pollution, surely one day all of us will be killed. Some people like to put the blame on the industrial revolutions. On the contrary, the pollution problem will be solved only with the help of modem science and technology.
