美国之前,我做了一些功课,上网浏览了美国的历史和地理以及各种风土人情,所有的信息都告诉我:这是一个世界上最强大、最民主的国家。怀揣着一颗好奇心,我来到了这个大洋彼岸的陌生国度。让我来看看吧,美国,你到底什么样?

美国人做事非常认真和细致。比如你到一家小店去买纪念品,无论你有多么赶时间,用多么焦虑的眼神急迫地看着他,做怎样夸张的表情,甚至忍不住地催促他,他们总是微笑,总是一丝不苟地将你买的纪念品轻手轻脚地放进盒子里,又把盒子包装好,然后再放进袋子里,小心翼翼地递给你,并且再送你一个最甜美、友好、温和的笑容。这一系列的举动让你不得不连声地对他说:“Thank you!”也让你感慨美国人在紧张的环境中所表现出来的那种从容不迫、不紧不慢和对所有顾客的彬彬有礼。

可事实上,大家知道的,美国人一点也不拘束,他们非常热情和开放。我们在美国遇见的一个小男生就这样,他不仅会伸手摸你的头发、拍你的肩膀、夸你很棒,让你充满自信,更让人难以想象的是,他还会抱起你,让我们含蓄的中国人尴尬不已却又不好意思推却。他们十分善于鼓励别人,课堂上,只要你回答出了一个问题,他们就会不停地夸你:“Good job!”在路上,如果你不小心摔了一跤,他们就会跑过来关心地询问:“Are you OK?”让你心里暖暖的,很感动。

同时,美国的家庭非常民主。在中国,基本上家里面的事情都是由家长说了算,而孩子们却没有“说话的份”。这次的“Homestay”让我认识到了美国家庭的民主性,孩子们在家里的权力和家长是一样大的,孩子们可以有各项选择权。在我们的寄宿家庭里,他们家的小女孩Karmila很可爱,家人都很宠爱她,但是她却没有我想象中的娇气,做事仔细认真,并且总是把自己打理得井井有条。吃饭时,当她妈妈问她要一些什么吃的时,她很有个性地告诉她妈妈,自己不想吃东西,便回到客厅看电视去了。小女孩的奶奶要给她吃水果,但是她也拒绝了。这要是在中国,可能家长就会过来管你,问你一大堆为什么。所以这就是美国孩子的独立自主能力和美国家庭的民主特色,他们对孩子十分放松,不去约束,让孩子们独自一人在世界上闯出一片属于自己的天地!

细细说来,美国人的特点还有很多很多,自由、民主、开放、细致,这些早已成为这个国家的标签,应该也是它能够成为“世界老大”的原因吧!我眼中的美国,值得我们用心去体会和琢磨…

在今天的语文课上,刘老师讲到了一个人,在中国大家都叫他“汉字叔叔”。那时我便下定决心,放学后一定要去百度里查查看。

一经查询,原来这个“汉字叔叔”是美国人,现在己经65岁了,名叫:理查德·西尔斯。而他就创造了“汉字与词源”这个网站,他自己的中文名就叫:斯睿德,并且他用了20年的时间整理甲骨文、金文等字形放到网上,在他“汉字与词源”的网站上只要输入任何字,那那个字全部相关资料都可以查看。因此感动了中国亿万网友,便被亲切地称为“汉字叔叔”

看到这里我不禁被他的毅力所感动,在加好奇心的驱使下,我继续往下看。

像有人问他为什么要创建网站时,而他说其实是一开始想学一门外语,而且他又喜欢挑战困难,所以他就选择了学习汉语。然后他自己就被中国博大精深的文化深深地吸引了,而这中国的汉字文化则更加坚定了他的信念:“学好汉字!”但在开始的时候他便吃了不少苦头。5000个汉字和6万种组合,但这汉字也有很多的演变,所以学起来很难。但如果知道起源和字意的话,学起来就会好很多。但结果总会事与愿违,在刚学汉字时只找到一本英文版的“认识汉字”,但这本书里只讲了汉字,并没有讲起源和字义,所以这本书毫无用处。之后,他又去查询相关网站,结果也是一场空。但他并没有气馁,反而萌生了一个想法:“我为什么不创造一个电脑版的‘说文解字’呢?”由于这个想法,他历经艰辛,终于吧“汉字与词源”这个网站建立好了,所以才被我们中国网友亲切地称为“汉字叔叔”

我被他的事迹深深地感动了,一个外囯人竞愿在中国的汉字上下这么大的功夫,还创建了专门的网站,我们真是自愧不如啊,所以"汉字叔叔"这个称号,这位"美囯佬"真是当之无愧!

今年暑假,我报名去参加了美国夏令营的游学旅行团。还发生了一件让我记忆一生的事情,使得这次游学不仅让我长了见识,还提醒我凡事都要认真对待,同时也暴露出了我做事粗心的缺点。

记得最后一天回到北京,我即将踏上回京的航班,我手上拿着护照高兴地过了安检,准备回家了,当走到登机口时,噩运发生了。这时我发现拿在手上的护照突然不翼而飞,而我却一点也没察觉到。当我跑到安检的地方,找了很久,没找到,回到登机口时,只剩下领队一人了,其他人已经坐飞机走了,我强忍住在眼眶里的泪水,受到了生平第一次被抛弃,孤独无助的感觉。我后悔极了,真想抽自己两下子。

领队打了个电话给我妈妈,说明了事情了经过,在电话那端也仿佛感觉到妈妈失望的语气,同时也夹杂着焦急和担心。唉~我自己怎么这么粗心,总是让父母为我担心,妈妈一定还做了很多好吃的,一定想了解我到美国的见阅,想到这次我又一次责怪自己的粗心大意,真是肠子都悔青了!后来爸妈着急得一夜没睡,早上连饭都没吃就跑去接我。

静下心来,我独自想了想,离开了家可真不好过,粗心到护照都丢了,害的我成了现在这样,世上没有后悔药,我这应该叫自作自受吧!终于深刻地知道了粗心造成的坏处,又意识到不能粗心,这次旅行比往常变得更有意义了。

这真是一次有意义的旅行啊!我获得了知识,长了见识,还知道了要改正粗心的毛病了,我的收获可真不少。因为粗心让我比其他人延迟一天和家人团聚的甜蜜。

今日是7月14日,是我的美国之旅的第一日.

今天我们先从华美学校正门坐巴士去南沙港客运码头,一到了南沙港后我们就坐船去香港机场,我们过了关,办好了行李托运手续就上了去台北的飞机.飞机飞了一个半小时就到达了台北.

到达台北桃园机场了,这一次是我第一次到台湾.台北还在下着蒙蒙细雨,空气十分清新。老师和我们先去了麦当劳,吃了一点东西,把肚子填饱后我们就登上了前往洛杉矶的747B型飞机.开始了长达11个小时的航程.

飞机里很宽,空姐对我们都很好,时不时会给我们一些水和饮料.不过飞机的座位很窄,不是很舒服,所以很难睡着.在飞机上每一位乘客都有一个小型可触摸的小电视和一机耳机.你可以听歌看电影,玩游戏和看新闻。11个小时的时间就是这样打消的。我总共看了六步电影:《怪兽大战外星人》、《夺命手机》、《移动城市》,《星球大战和帝国反击战》……

当地时间13点45分,我们终于抵达洛杉矶.我们一下飞机就看杉矶的天很蓝,万里无云.机场的路牌是英文.我们拿好了行李过了健康关来到了机场门外。

有一位接待我们的导游早早就在机场外等我们了,我们坐着他的车到了SCS学校(南方岛国基础制校)当地的老师给我们发了一件T恤之后我们跟着寄宿家庭回到了他们的家,开始了寄宿家庭的生活。

这个家庭有3个人,他们的妈妈是老师,儿子叫JOSH。他爸爸也是做老师的,他们家建在山腰上,从窗户望出去可以看到洛杉矶全景。房内有一个厨房、三个卧室、2个客厅和2个厕所。晚上,我买了一张电话卡,打了一个电话回家。爸爸和妈妈听到我的电话可高兴了。

第二天,寄宿家庭主人带我们去上学,美国的学校与中国不同,早上只有二节课,下午不上课。早上第一节课是英语课。老师给我们读读帮事,回答一些问题就过去一节课了,第二节课是数学课,老师通常给我们做几道题就可以了,几乎没有作业。上完课就去吃饭,我们都是吃一些意粉、汉堡等西方食物。 美国学校下午没课,是自由活动。你可以去看电影,也可以去打“躲避球”,或去打乒乓球,一切随你所好。五时三十分家长按时接我们回家,这就是一天了。每到周三时,老师都会带我们去游览,迪士尼乐园、环球影城和海盗乐园等我们都去过。

过了二个星期的短暂家庭生活,我们就依依不舍地离开了他们。我们飞往波士顿,参观了哈佛大学和麻省理工大学。晚上我们吃中式自助餐。第二天我们乘车到达纽约,纽约给我的印象很大。纽约的空气污染比广州还大,平均每条大街都塞满了车。从远出看纽约市中心,纽约的建筑群高高低低,一大排都是楼房。我们参观了高大壮观的自由女神,车水马龙的华尔街,人群拥挤的时代广场,繁忙地第五大道。威严的联合国总部,令人惋惜的世贸大厦旧址,和全美国最严格的西点军校。

纽约这个城市名字的来历有一个有趣故事。英国有小镇叫“约克”。(YORK)。哥伦布发现新大陆后,约克镇的人移民到了美国在现在纽约的地方修建了一个新小镇。他们用故乡的名来命名,在“纽约”前面加了一个new(新的),变成了new york.(新的约克)。翻译成中文就变成了“纽约”。不过,现在的纽约已经变成了世界最大的城市。纽约拥有20几条线和世界上最大的青铜钢架雕塑—自由女神,世界上最大的港口—蒙娜丽莎刚等几个世界之最。第二天,我们又前往美国首都华盛顿。我一来到华盛顿就发现华盛顿使很多,黑人也很多,空气很好。我们在华盛顿参加白宫,华盛顿纪念碑,林肯纪念堂,五角大楼等。晚上,我们乘坐飞机,飞往san Francissco.(旧金山)。我们又去了旧金山的艺术宫,渔人码头,九曲花街,和金门大桥。

金门大桥又被称为摇摆桥,当海风打在桥身上,总有一点摇摆的感觉,令人害怕。

晚上,我们搭乘华航班机返回祖国的怀抱。这次美国之旅让我知道了美国的风俗和文化,我觉得美国比中国礼貌比中国文明,他在环保方面也做得比我们好。

我们中国现在还存在很多不好的现象,如随地大小便,乱扔垃圾等。我在美国是根本看不到的,所以我们要学习美国的文明礼貌,提高我们的素质。还有美国的科学很发达,中国应要快马加鞭,超过美国。

一个自由且多彩的国家,圣诞节是他们快乐狂欢的日子。美国的民族复杂,所以其庆祝方式常因移民的不同而有所差异。大部分室内都有别致的布置,门外悬挂着美艳的花环及绮丽的饰物。

梵谛冈:如果你想在世界最大的圣彼得教堂参加由教皇亲自主持的圣诞弥撒,虽然那里可容纳三万五千人但仍需预先定位。其圣诞弥撒大多在十二月二十五日零时举行,教皇坐在八个侍从抬着的轿子上穿过群众,一边向信徒们祝福一边走上祭坛。教皇着白袍外罩金黄色祭服,登上圣彼得大教堂的祭坛,以拉丁语念出祷告词。零时整,号角手吹响的喇叭,安放于大祭坛上的摇篮本被覆盖着。这时,圣婴耶稣身上的白布被徐徐除下了。教堂内的各国信徒眼眶里含着热泪,以各自的语言唱出悠扬的“平安夜”。世界各地的天主教徒均视前往圣彼得大教堂,亲谒教皇,受其祝福,为一生中最大的荣幸。

日本:虽然日本非基督教国家,但战后日本过圣诞节的风气十分风靡。原因之一与各大商家的促销有关。有的百货公司以圣诞树作装潢,在店内布置雪景,增加银色圣诞的气氛。各色茶店、夜总会、酒吧也都安置一株圣诞树以应景。十二月中旬各商店人山人海,大家为准备圣诞礼物赠送亲友而忙碌。善心人士亦趁机致赠礼品予东京室内五十二所肢体及心智障碍的儿童。

上星期郭校长去美国学习了。喏,这不是正在给我们讲美国的事吗?

看了美国的一些资料和图片,我知道了美国是一个非常干净清洁的国家,地上只有掉下来的树叶,却没有烂纸、塑料袋什么的;美国人很爱护动物,布莱恩校长的家很大,经常有小动物在布莱恩校长家旁的高尔夫球场里来回跑动,像鹿、松鼠什么的。

美国的教育很好,学校一个班绝不会超过二十人,教室设计也很有条理,而最让我们羡慕的是课堂气氛相当活跃。

这节课让我学到了很多,我们应该向美国人学习,不吃垃圾食品;爱护环境卫生,在马路上看到垃圾要捡起来,扔进垃圾箱里;保护动物朋友;多植树和草坪;不要在公共场所或者自己家中大喊大叫。

我们要保持更好的环境卫生,向美国看齐。我们要多多了解美国,尽力而为地超过美国!

当年李鸿章访美是件轰动美国朝野的大事,当时纽约媒体竞相报道。特别是《纽约时报》几乎有着详尽的李鸿章活动日志。

同时,梁启超的《新大陆游记·由加拿大至纽约》、林乐知的《李傅相历聘欧美记》,特别是当代外交官郑曦原编著的《帝国的回忆:纽约时报晚清观察记》,皆通过当时美国记者们的笔传录了不少史实,可以使我们在今天透过百年的烟尘,仍然能够爬梳出来当年李鸿章访美时的紧张、生动而富有意义的外交斡旋场景。

当时,如曙光初上的世界强国美国面前,李鸿章这个暮年老人,为身处苍茫的中华帝国作出了何种努力,去传播东方的呼声和延续东方的文明。只可惜,弱国无外交。但是,从李鸿章的挣扎中,我仍然看到了那时老迈的中国那骄傲的、渐行渐远的身影。

史料记载,李鸿章访美是出于其他的因缘。那是在1896年,李鸿章奉命出使俄国参加沙皇尼古拉二世的加冕礼。当时他已经73岁,距上次在天津接见美国前总统格兰特已经17年了。出席完沙皇加冕礼,他决定顺访欧美列国,看一看外面的世界。此行历时共190天,行程9万里。

游历欧洲后,李鸿章一行乘“圣·路易斯”号邮轮,于当地时间1896年8月28日抵达美国纽约。李鸿章的到访,几乎是第一位东方高官来到美利坚。整个纽约沸腾了,万人空巷。

美国人称李鸿章是“总督”,美国东部,报纸记者云集,各报号外雪片般发散,李鸿章抢了当时美国所有报纸的头版头条。让我们简单逐日记载一下李鸿章当时在美的行程。

由学校组织的带队老师和学生一行29人的旅游团,利用暑假时间,赴美参加了美国文化交流夏令营。

我们登上飞机后,我的怀里像揣着一只小兔子,心咚咚直跳,激动极了。因为我们将乘坐波音747横跨太平洋,飞往美国。不一会儿,飞机便起飞了,在飞机上,看着下面的大好山河;看着那长长的黄浦江;看着那威严的山峰,我感到即将离开的祖国是那么雄伟壮丽。据说,美国,是一个经济和科技发达,具有悠久历史文化的国家。有幸去那里让我非常高兴,非常自豪……经过13个多小时的航程,我们终于来到了第一站,美国著名城市之一——旧金山。

下了飞机,我们随领队老师一起来到当地一所学校,同学们被分到了不同的家庭。之后,我们便分别跟着所分到的家庭主人来到了各自的家。四个星期的家庭生活,我们和他们相处得都很愉快,和他们一起交流,一起生活,且品尝了地地道道的具有美国风味的饮食,学习了地地道道的英语。这四个星期,是我由生以来最有价值的时光,但美好的时光总是过得很快,不久我们的家庭生活就要结束了,我非常舍不得离开他们,但天下没有不散的宴席,只好依依不舍地离开了他们,便开始了我们的第二阶段的旅游生活——参观游览。我们参观了白宫、自由女神像、自由钟等许多著名城市和雄伟建筑,还参观了斯坦福大学、哥伦比亚大学、耶鲁大学等名牌大学,让我赏心悦目,赞不绝口。

经过这一次终生难忘的美国之旅,使我感慨万千,受益匪浅。首先使我感到大开了眼界,亲眼看到美国的大学到处林立,说明他们对教育的重视,所以他们不仅文化和文明程度高,而且科技和经济发达,人们生活水平普遍很高。其次,四个星期的美国家庭生活,使我们学到了不少知识,特别是通过短期地地道道的英语培训,纠正了在发音方面的不当之处,使我们英语水平有了很大提高。第三,他们讲卫生、讲文明、讲礼貌的社会风气,使我深受教育和启发。

我要以这次美国之旅为动力,今后要加倍努力学习,争取不久的将来,重返美国学习,学好知识和本领来报效祖国。

我到森林里,是因为我要过真正的生活,我要活的充实,吸取生命中的精髓;摒弃一切与生活无关的事物,当我死时,才不至于发现我白活了一场。

死亡诗社》讲的是关于守旧与创新、现实与浪漫、新人与老人碰撞较量的故事,这部影片很能激发人的思考。当我活在这个世界上,我想要追求的是什么,我需要的是什么?地位、金钱、还是美人?我们很多人都只是因为活着而活着。就像电影里面的学生们,被自己的父母怀揣着希望送入威尔顿,一开始他们也是不乐意的吧,就像哭着说我不要来这儿的小男孩一样。但是结果呢?经过时间的流逝,古板教育的教导,他们磨平了自己的棱角,渐渐地和这个严肃古板的学校融为一体。

理论上来说,教育应该是教导我们成为基廷那样的人,成为一个有思想的个体,而不是工厂里批量生产的商品。儿时,老师问你你的梦想是什么,你说你想要做一个屠夫,因为你想要每天都吃到新鲜的猪肉。少年,老师问你的梦想是什么,你说你想要成为一个医生,可以拯救濒危的生命。现在,我问你你的梦想是什么,你说你只想赚到足够的钱让自己活下去。

为什么你的想法发生这么大的变化?因为我们在成长,我们不再是那个心中充满浪漫和希望的“小孩”,生存成了我们生活的第一件大事,其他的所有都应该后退让位。本来是翱翔天际的雄鹰,却偏偏放弃了自己的翅膀选择做田间的蝼蚁,多么可悲?我们应该像歌里唱的“管你什么想法,我是我自己的表达,管你什么看法,我的世界我来浮夸”。出门左转,换个方向,你的生活也会更加美好。

基廷在交给孩子们诗歌的时候总是摈除现实主义而侧重浪漫主义的,就像惠特曼和雪莱。本来就是十五六岁的少年,为什么要让他们过早变得现实而失去这个年纪所拥有的浪漫与天真呢?而古诗文社就是这么一个宣泄的缺口,让他们能在浪漫的诗词中找寻到自己已经死去的梦想,宣泄出现实的压抑。但是尼尔,这一个被自己父亲寄予厚望被迫放弃自己喜爱的表演的孩子,却没有找到自己的方式,最终以自杀收尾。我不能说这件事和基廷完全无关,但最终想不开的还是尼尔,毕竟现实和梦想并不是完全分开的两个空间啊,当你能够在现实中坚持自己的梦想的时候,才是真正的伟大。

我不能否认对威尔顿来说基廷的到来导致某些人的生活变得一团糟,因为他们习惯了平静,习惯了不改变。但是我还是认为,当你有能力改变的时候,不要吝啬的伸出去自己的手。毕竟,现在成功的人大多都不那么循规蹈矩,跳出你给自己划出的圈子,其实世界很大很美好。

我觉得电影告诉我的,就是题目上那句话。如果不信,那么就请彪悍的不相信。不要不相信,还怕这怕那,还害怕万一是真的怎么办?万一错了怎么办?任何介于信和不信两者之间的暧昧、忸怩的状态,都会给自己带来伤害——这就是这部电影告诉我的。

我们生活中不乏这样的例子。我们时常看见某人家里供着个佛像,然后我们问主人,哟?您还信佛那?主人往往回答,倒不是那么信,不过供供总是没坏处,万一真的有佛呢?我们时常看到某人脖子上戴个十字架,我们问,请问您是基督徒?经常有人回答,不是不是,我是为了避邪。

影片正是告诉我们,任何不是出于严肃的信仰的模棱两可的“相信”都会给我们带来恶果。当我们不去严肃的信仰某个东西,却又害怕这个信仰一旦变成真的怎么办的时候,我们就陷进了挣扎当中。而在这种“将信将疑”的时候,人的心理是最为脆弱的,因为它不够彪悍,不够坚强。

因此,所谓信仰,乃是必须出自心灵深处的,而不是出于任何功利的目的——比如自我保护,再比如祈求得到可能的拯救或祝福等等。当你出于这些功利的目的而去靠近一个信仰或者宗教的时候,却往往让自己出于精神上最为脆弱、最容易受到伤害的境地。

最后,让我们再次体味《希望与反抗》里那句经典台词“人要有坚强的精神和温柔的心灵”。

在一个阳光明媚风和日丽的一天,我们来到了位于美国洛杉矶的环球影城。好莱坞环球影城位于市区西北郊。20世纪初,电影制片商在此发现理想的拍片自然环境,便陆续集中到此,使这块土地逐渐成为世界闻名的影城。

我们进入景区后,先坐在一辆车上游览了拍摄基地。拍摄基地就是拍摄好莱坞大片的地方。进去一看,不愧是专业,几乎把任何场景都模仿了,有洪水、印第安村庄、还有4D做成的“金刚”的家(一只猩猩,看过的同学应该都知道)……做的最真实的当属地铁站了,首先就是一个地铁站的摆设,这不稀奇,马上就是灾难来临的时刻了。先是电路漏电,然后洪水从楼梯上倾泻下来,紧接着上面的汽车掉了下来,最后一辆地铁冲了过来立刻撞上了柱子, 随着“咚”的声响,我们离开了“地铁站”。

去了拍摄基地,我们又去了“木乃伊的洞穴”(过山车)。过山车十分恐怖,先是慢慢的走,旁边有蜘蛛网、骷髅头等东西做出那种十分恐怖的感觉。突然,前面出现了一个法老,他说要诅咒你然后就开始了。过山车左摇右晃,一会儿上,一会儿下,一会儿正着开,一会儿倒着开。突然停了下来,后面突然出现了几个僵尸正追着你,然后以最快的速度向前冲了去,那感觉爽啊!

我玩了许多项目后离开了环球影城,那天实在是太开心了!我真的还想再去一次。

"We wish you a merry Christmas, we wish you a merry Christmas"Have you heard that song? Yup! Its Christmas time! This Christmas, I stayed with my "host family"1. It was an amazing experience to see how a typical American family would celebrate the biggest western festival of the year.

Christmas, like our Spring Festival, has a meaning in itself. Christmas Day, which is on December 25, is the birthday of Jesus Christ--the son of God. Thats why it is called Christmas. On that day, Christians would get together with their families to celebrate the birthday of Jesus. But nowadays, the religious meaning of Christmas has become less emphasized. To many families, it is just a time of family reunion and the ever-exciting present-giving.

Our school had been on winter vacation since December 11. I stayed at my friend, Stephen Stapczynskis house--his family was my "host family". Although Christmas was still more than ten days ahead, the festive spirit had already been teeming everywhere. The Christmas tree had already been set up, and on every windowsill, there were Christmas lights. On the first day I arrived at their house, Stephen and I helped Mrs. Stapczynski put decorations on the Christmas tree. The tree looked so nice with all the lights on and the beautiful ornaments dangling from its branches.

As Christmas came closer, the whole neighborhood had made preparations too. Some people would hold parties at their houses, inviting all their neighbors to come. So every night, if you went out, you would see a long line of cars parked in front of some house--a partys on!

Whats more, the Christmas decorations that some people put on their windows and in gardens were just amazing. On one night, we went out in our car for a "tour of lights". There was one street that was so famous for its lights that it got its way into the local paper. We had a hard time finding the well-hidden street, but it turned out to be worth the effort. Lights shone brightly in front of nearly every house, on trees, bushes, doors, windowseverywhere, taking different shapes, making it seem almost like daytime. Huge inflatable figures in the front gardens were waving to us: there were Santa Clauses2, of course, chuckling merrily away; and there were also other Christmas figures, like Rudolph3--the red-nosed reindeer--with his red nose gleaming ever so brightly; even Bart Simpson--a character in the famous comedy The Simpsons--had joined the jolly party, wearing a Santas hat. The street set off a lot of "ooh"s and "aah"s inside the car.4 When we left, there was a line of cars in the street, all there to see the lights.

Christmas is the time for exchanging presents. Stephen and Niko had been thinking about their Christmas lists (a list of things they wish "Santa"to give them for Christmas) for a long time. I didnt want to ask for anything, but the Stapczynskis were so kind to "force"me make one list as well (Mr. Stapczynski told me if I didnt make one he would chop off my legs). So I wrote down a couple of things that I would like to have, and gave the list to them--sorry, my mistake--to Santa.

Finally, Christmas Eve came. There was a special Christmas service at the church at 6 p.m. It was certainly a very interesting experience for me. The priest started the service reading and sang out extractions from a holy book--The Divine Liturgy. For several times, we would stand up and pray.

Sometimes, the church choir would start singing. The atmosphere was very quiet and holy. Then there was a ceremony called "The Receiving Communion". People waited in line to "receive"a spoonful of food from the priest. It was a very special Christmas tradition. The food was made from bread and wine. The bread represents the body of Jesus, and the wine represents his blood. After this ceremony, the priest had a speech. He reminded us not to forget the true meaning of Christmas, and let Jesus really live inside us--that is, to love the people around us wholeheartedly. I think that no matter if you are a Christian or not, this principle should be part of our lives. After the priest finished his speech, the part that I enjoyed most came: Christmas carols5. Christmas carols are songs that people sing at Christmas, such as "Jingle Bells", "We Wish You a Merry Christmas", "Silent Night"and so on. Some were very merry, others sounded quite holy, but all of them were beautiful. I closed my eyes, and let all the peacefulness and happiness that were in the songs flow through me. What a feeling it was!

We went to sleep earlier that day for we had to get up early on Christmas Day to open our presents. Sure enough, when I was still half-way during a sweet dream, Stephen burst into my room and told me to get up and open presents. There were a huge pile of presents under the Christmas tree, and there was such a mysterious mist shrouding them that made me eager to see what they all were. So one by one, we went through all the presents. Mr. and Mrs. Stapczynski had bought me everything I had written on my Christmas list--and a lot more! I got music CDs, film DVDs, clothes, books I was very happy, and I didnt know how to express my appreciation for what they had done for me.

Stephen and Niko had gotten a lot of presents too, and they had already been trying out their new games!

In the afternoon, we went to Mrs. Stapczynskis brother, Uncle Stans house. They had prepared a marvelous meal for us. A lot of their friends and relatives also came. I saw Stephen and Nikos grandparents, Yiayia and Papou (words of grandma and grandpa in Greek--Mrs. Stapczynskis parents came from Greece, so they like the boys using Greek words to call them). They were very kind to me, and treated me just like one of their family members. We had a very luxurious meal, consisting of turkey, beef, pork, and all sorts of other food.

After the meal, when all the stomachs were full and everyone was feeling drowsy6 from all the food, we just sat around the table and chatted, just like what we Chinese people do at the Spring Festival. After all, Christmas, like the Spring Festival, is a time for us to get away from our busy lives, a time for family gathering, and a time to have some fun.

Based on historical documents, modern survey and statistics, as well as the result of predecessor studies, the trend and main process of forest dynamics are recognized. The forest area and forest coverage rates for each province of China from 1700 to 1949 are es- timated backward by every 50 years. Linking the result with modern National Forest Inventory data, the spatial-temporal dynamics of Chinese forest in recent 300 years (AD 1700–1998) is quantitatively analyzed. The study shows that in recent 300 years, the forest area in current territory of China has declined by 0.95×108 hm2 (or 9.2% of the coverage rate) in total, with a trend of decrease and recovery. Before the 1960s, there was a trend of accelerated de- scending. The forest area was reduced by 1.66×108 hm2 (or 17% of the coverage rate) in 260 years. While after the 1960s, there has been a rapid increase. The forest area increased by 0.7×108 hm2 (or 8% of the coverage rate) in 40 years. The study also shows that there is a significant spatial difference in the dynamics of forest. The amplitudes of increasing and de- creasing in western China are both smaller than the ones in eastern China. During the rapid declining period from 1700 to 1949, the most serious decrease appeared in the Northeast, the Southwest and the Southeast, where the coverage rate in most provinces dropped over 20%. In Heilongjiang Province, the coverage rate dropped by 50%. In Jilin Province, it dropped by 36%. In Sichuan Province and Chongqing Municipality, it dropped by 42%. In Yunnan Prov- ince, it dropped by 35%. During the recovery period 1949–1998, the western provinces, mu- nicipality and autonomous regions, including Ningxia, Gansu, Inner Mongolia, Si- chuan–Chongqing, Yunnan, Tibet, Xinjiang and Qinghai, etc, the increase rates are all below 5%, while the eastern provinces, municipality and autonomous regions (except Heilongjiang, Hubei, Jiangsu–Shanghai) have achieved an increase over 5%, among which the Guang- dong–Hainan, Guangxi, Anhui, Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei, Shandong, Henan, Zhejiang, and Fu- jian have an increase over 10%. 有关介绍美国的英语作文篇2

The biggest "infrastructure" challenge for the United States in the next decade is not the billions needed for railroads, highways and energy. It is the American school system, from kindergarten through the Ph.D. program and the postgraduate education of adults. And it requires something far scarcer than money -- thinking and risk-taking.

Some of the major banks, for example, are studying the possibility of entrance examinations that would test the knowledge and abilities of graduates applying for jobs.

Others gain success in the less structured "permissive" atmosphere of a "progressive” school. Some adults learn out of books, some learn by doing, some learn best by listening. Some students need prescribed daily doses of information; others need challenge and a high degree of responsibility for the design of their own work. But for too long, teachers have insisted that there is one best way to teach and learn, even though they have disagreed about what that way is.

A century ago, the greatest majority of Americans lived in communities so small that only one one-room schoolhouse was within walking distance of small children. Then there had to be "one right method" for everybody to learn.

Today the great majority of pupils in the United States (and all developed countries) live in big cities with such density that there can easily be three or four elementary schools -- as well as secondary schools within each childs walking or bicycling distance. This enables students and their parents to choose between alternative routes to learning offered by competing schools.

Indeed, competition and choice are already beginning to infiltrate the school system. Private schools and colleges have shown an unusual ability to survive and develop during a period of rising costs and dropping enrollments elsewhere. All this presents, of course, a true threat to the public school establishment. But economics, student needs and our new understanding of how people learn are bound to break the traditional education monopoly just as trucks and airplanes broke the monopoly of the railroads, and computers and "chips" are breaking the telephone monopoly.

In the next 10 or 15 years we will almost certainly see strong pressures to make schools responsible for thinking through what kind of learning methods are appropriate for each child. We will almost certainly see great pressure, from parents and students alike, for result-focused education and for accountability in meeting objectives set for individual students. The continuing professional education of highly educated adults will become a third tier in addition to undergraduate and professional or graduate work. Above all, attention will shift back to schools and education as the central capital investment and infrastructure of a “knowledge society.”

a society in transition

shifts in the structure of american society, begun years or even decades earlier, had become apparent by the time the 1980s arrived. the composition of the population and the most important jobs and skills in american society had undergone major changes.

the dominance of service jobs in the economy became undeniable. by the mid-1980s, capping a trend under way for more than half a century, three-fourths of all employees worked in the service sector —— for instance, as retail clerks, office workers, teachers, physicians and other health care professionals, government employees, lawyers, and legal and financial specialists.

service-sector activity benefited from the availability and increased use of the computer. this was the information age, with hardware and software that could aggregate previously unimagined amounts of data about economic and social trends. the federal government had made significant investments in computer technology in the 1950s and 1960s as part of its military and space programs. in the late 1970s, two young california entrepreneurs, working out of a garage, assembled the first widely marketed computer for home use, named it the apple —— and ignited a

revolution. by the early 1980s, millions of microcomputers had found their way into u.s. businesses and homes, and in 1982, time magazine dubbed the computer its "machine of the year."

meanwhile, americas "smokestack industries," such as steel and textiles, were in decline. the u.s. automobile industry reeled under competition from such highly efficient japanese car makers as toyota, honda and nissan —— many of which opened their own factories in the united states. by 1980 japanese automobile manufacturers controlled a quarter of the american market. only by the late 1980s and early 1990s did u.s. manufacturers begin to match the

cost efficiencies and engineering standards of their japanese rivals, and start winning back the share of the domestic car market they had ceded to imports over the previous two decades. although consumers were the beneficiaries of this ferocious competition —— and in other highly competitive industries, as well, such as computers —— the painful struggle to cut costs meant the permanent loss of thousands of jobs in the u.s. auto industry.

population patterns shifted as well. after the end of the postwar "baby boom," which lasted from approximately 1946 to 1964, the overall rate of population growth declined and the population grew older. household composition also changed. in 1980 the percentage of family households dropped; a quarter of all groups were now classified as "nonfamily households," in which two or more uelated persons lived together.

new immigrants changed the character of american society in other ways. the 1965 reform in immigration policy shifted the focus away from western europe, and the number of new arrivals from asia and latin america increased

dramatically. vietnamese refugees, for example, poured into the united states in the aftermath of the war. in 1980, 808,000 immigrants arrived, the highest number in 60 years, as the country once more became a haven for people from around the world......

河上吹来的凉风令人神清气爽,这次坐游船,我们可以看到著名的“自由女神像”。

自由女神像和制作它的雕塑家还有个故事:

创作这一艺术杰作的是19世纪后期一位才华横溢的雕塑家,他的名字叫弗雷德里克·奥古斯特·巴托尔迪。1834年巴托尔迪出生在法国的一个意大利人家庭。他从青年时代起就酷爱雕塑艺术,自由女神的形象很早就存在于他的心目中了。1851年路易·拿破仑·波拿巴发动政变推翻第二共和国后的一天,一群坚定的共和党人在街头筑起防御工事,暮色苍茫时,一个年轻姑娘手持熊熊燃烧的火炬,跃过障碍物,高呼“前进”的口号向敌人冲去,波拿巴分子的枪声响了,姑娘倒在血泊中。巴托尔迪亲自目睹这一事实,心情久久不能平静。从此这位高攀火炬的勇敢姑娘就成为他心中自由的象征。

我们登上游船,上到二楼。河上吹来的风甚为凉爽,把我额头上的头发撩到后面去了,后面的头发都顺着风,被吹成了“迎风飘扬”的发型。

只见宽阔无比的东河,泛着蓝蓝的波浪,沿河的地方,要么是楼房镶嵌在绿树小山之间,要么就是高楼拔地而起,一派繁荣景象;远处,水天一色的蓝,河面上泛起的粼粼波光,白白的,水和天似乎没有界限,天空上的白云也异常洁白。我隐隐约约看见右前方,有一座雕塑伫立在那里,那个就应该是自由女神像了吧,我想。

不远了,就在前面1百米处,自由女神像高高举着火炬,温柔和蔼又不失镇定稳重,蓝天白云下,自由女神像宛如一座淡青色的玉雕。这时,一只小帆船经过,更为这一幅秀丽的画添了一道亮丽的风景线。
