The familiar offers comfort few can resist, and fewer still want to disturb. But as relatively recent inventions such as the telescope and microscope have taught us, the unknown has many layers. Every truth has geological strata, and you cant have an orthodoxy without a heresy.

The moment a newborn opens its eyes, discovery begins. I learned this with a laugh one morning after delivering a calf. When it lifted up its fluffy head and looked at me, its eyes held the absolute bewilderment of the newly born. A moment before it had the even black nowhere of the womb, and suddenly its world was full of colour, movement and noise. Ive never seen anything so shocked to be alive.

新生儿睁开双眼的那一刻起，发现也就开始了。我是在一天清晨给一头小牛犊接生的时候突然意识到这一点的，不禁大笑。小牛仰起毛茸茸的脑袋看着我，目光中透出这个新生命对世界的一无所知。片刻这前，它还呆在母体里某个黑暗而平静的地方，突然，它的世界变得五光十色，变得活泼而喧闹。我从未见过任何东西在获得生命时是如些的惊异。

Nowadays ther are a lot of false advertisements in society. They have caused many harms to society. Generally, their harms can be listed as follows. First, they exaggerate the functions of the goods they advertise and mislead consumers. Second , some advertisements contain obscene contents and bring about spiritual pollution. Third, they seriously damage the credit of businesses because the shops which sell those goods will be distrusted and even considered the conspirators of those advertisers by consumers. Personally, I am usually vigilant against any advertisements and so I have never been taken in. However, some people are credulous and are easily taken in. Therefore, in my opinion, effective measures must be taken to ban false advertisements and protect consumers interests. First, all the advertisements must be strictly censored by the authorities concerned before they are published. Besides, severe punishment must be inflicted on those who publish illegal advertisements. In conclusion, false advertisements must be eliminated in our society.

Years ago, when I started looking for my first job, wise advisers urged, "Barbara, be enthusiastic! Enthusiasm will take you further than any amount of experience." How right they were. Enthusiastic people can turn a boring drive into an adventure, extra work into opportunity and strangers into friends."Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm," wrote Ralph Waldo Emerson. It is the paste that helps you hang in there when the going gets tough. It is the inner voice that whispers, "I can do it!" when others shout, "No, you can’t."

We need to live each moment wholeheartedly, with all our senses — finding pleasure in the fragrance of a back-yard garden, the crayoned picture of a six-year-old, the enchanting beauty of a rainbow. It is such enthusiastic love of life that puts a sparkle in our eyes, a lilt in our steps and smooths the wrinkles from our souls.

学习是每个人人生必经的历程，体罚更是许多老师教导小孩子所用的“手段”。体罚，有打手心，打屁股，甚至最后构成性骚扰都有。虽然法律为了维护学生的权利，明文规定不准体罚，有人反对，有人赞成，不管是反对还是赞成，都没有人可以明确的说出有什么更好的方法可以辅助学生学习。

每样东西，都有利弊两面，体罚也不例外。好处在于可以督促学生学习，使之不再犯同样的错误，向正确的路迈进。但，其方式也十分重要，必须要先温言劝说，若真的不听再来处罚，若是以成绩订定标准，未免有点太残酷了。每位学子的能力和兴趣都不太一样，每个人都有自己的优点。有些学生就会对老师错误的体罚方式产生反抗，反而越搞越糟。

有一次，看到一部电影──小孩不笨，内容描述因顶撞师长而被学校公开处罚──在全校学生面前被教官打屁股。最后，不仅没有达到效果，还伤害学生的自尊心，使他不敢面对大家的眼光，也为了这样引起社会关注，实在是得不偿失。

知名作家侯文咏的小说危险心灵，也有类似的案例，老师处理不当，致于引起正值青春期学生的反抗，进行大规模的抗议……。生活中这样的案例实多如过江之鲫，也更需要社会人士的注意。

基于上面的种.种例子，我个人认为，体罚固然是可以，但务必别忽略掉最重要的一点──学生的想法。学生与老师的想法不同往往就是造成差异的原因，务必尊重学生的看法，才能共同创造出美满的学校生活！
