Holiday

As a student, I expect theWinterHolidayvery much, because I don’t have to go to school every day. So I can sleep and get up late. But this winter holiday, I am not very happy. I didn’t do well in the final exam. It makes my parents disappointed. I feel sorry to them. Besides, I got ill the whole winter holiday. I caught a cold at first and then had a fever. I had to see a doctor every day. My parents worried much about me. Because of the illness, I didn’t have a good time during the New Year. Now, I am a little better. I hope I could be well soon, because the new term is beginning. I don’t want to go to school with illness.

作为一个学生，我很期待寒假的到来，因为这样我就不用每天上学了，也能晚睡晚起。但是这个寒假，我过得不是很开心。期末考试我没有考好，这让我的父母很失望，我觉得对不起他们。此外，一整个寒假我都在生病。起初是感冒，后来又发烧。我每天都去看医生，父母很担心我。因为生病，新年我都没有好好过。现在，我好了一些，我希望我能快点好，因为新学期马上就要开始了，我不想带病上学。

I likeWinterHolidayvery much, although it’s very short. The Spring Festival is interesting. I have many things to eat and I will have new clothes. Besides, I can watch TV. I like cartoons. They are so interesting that I can watch them all the day. I have a new computer, so I can play games with my father. He promised to teach me. I will visit my relatives during the Spring Festival and I can get lucky money. Therefore, I can buy something I like. I have many to buy. Winter holiday is wonderful.

我喜欢寒假，虽然它很短。春节是很好玩的，我有很多吃的东西，还有新衣服穿。另外，我还能看电视，我喜欢动画片，它们都很有趣，我可以看一整天。我有一台新电脑，所以我还能和爸爸玩游戏。他答应过我要教我玩游戏的。春节期间，我也会拜访亲戚们，能得到压岁钱，然后我就能买我喜欢的东西了。我有许多东西要买。寒假真的很丰富多彩。

SomeHolidays are so much fun that they catch on outside of their culture. The most obvious exampleisprobably Christmas, which is celebrated around the world by people who aren’t even Christian. Similarly, in recent years, the Dragon Boat Festival has moved beyond China to become an international holiday celebrated by people who may know little about the holiday’s origins.

有些节日实在是很有趣，所以在本土文化以外的地方也很受欢迎。最明显的例子可能就是圣诞节，世界各地的人都会庆祝圣诞节，即使是非基督徒。同样，最近几年端午节已经不局限于中国，成为国际性节日，而庆祝的人可能对节日的由来并不太了解。

The Dragon Boat Festival is one of three majorChineseholidays, along with the Spring and Moon Festivals. Of the three, it is possibly the oldest, dating back to the Warring States Period in 227 B.C. The festival commemorates Qu Yuan, a minister in the service of the Chu Emperor. Despairing over corruption at court, Qu threw himself into a river. Townspeople jumped into their boats and tried in vain to save him. Then, hoping to distract hungry fish from his body, the people scattered rice on the water.

端午节与春节和中秋节并列为中国三大节日。这三个节日中，它可能是最古老的一个，可以追溯到公元前227年的战国时代。这个节日是为了纪念楚国的大夫屈原，他因为对朝廷的贪污腐败感到绝望而投河自尽。镇上的人纷纷冲上船去救他，却没有成功。后来大家把米撒到水里，希望把饥饿的鱼群从他的躯体边引开。

Over the years, the story of Qu’s demise transformed into the traditions of racing dragon boats and eating zongzi – a kind of rice wrapped in bamboo leaves. The races have certainly captured the imagination of people from all over the world. Every spring there are nearly 60 dragon boat races held outside of China in cities from Vancouver to Sydney, from Gdańsk, Poland to Cape Town, South Africa. Canada alone has nearly 50 dragon boat teams and Germany has nearly 30.

多年以后，屈原逝世的故事逐渐演变成赛龙舟和吃粽子(一种包在竹叶中的米食)的传统。这些竞赛显然激起了世界各地人们的想像，每年春天有将近60场龙舟赛在中国境外的城市举办，从温哥华到悉尼，从波兰的格但斯克到南非的开普敦。单单字加拿大就有将近50支龙舟队伍，德国则有近30个。

So what is it about the Dragon Boat Festival that appeals to foreigners? “It’s an unusual

sport,” says one racer from Germany. “It’s not like everybody’s doing it. That’s one of the reasons that there’s such great team spirit in a dragon boat team – everybody feels like we’re doing something special.” And what about the zongzi? “Ehhh, they’re not bad, I guess,” he says. “Something of an acquired taste. I just haven’t really acquired it yet.”

The Dragon Boat Festival ,also called the Duanwu Festival ,is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month according to the

Chinese calendar.People always eat rice dumplings and watch dragon boat races to celebrate it.

The festival is best known for its dragon-boat races,especially in the southern places where there are many rivers and lakes. Ití?s

very popular.

The rice dumpling is made of glutinous rice,meat and so on. You can eat different kinds of rice dumplings.They are very delicious.

And Dragon Boat Festival is for Qu Yuan. He is an honest minister who is said to have committed suicide by drowning himself in a

river.

Overall, the Dragon Boat Festival is very interesting!

Summervacation this is a the students expect long-lost happy time simply

can and play no more unpleasant sound alarm clock in the morning...

But we looked at those high expectations a less-pressured treasure mom has

arranged everything for us: early in the morning to go to remedial class noon to

classes every day and every day go to remedial classes in the afternoon. I every

day in ask him who invented the remedial class! Deprived of the time I watch TV

if let me know who it is I will regard that man as my enemy.

SummerHolidayis coming.I am going to do many things that I want to do.

For exampie,first I will jion a soccer club,because I like playing soccer.During

the summer holiday, I want to practice more to improve my skills.Second I will

go to my grandmas house,because I miss her very much.I want to stay with her

for several days.Last I will help my mother do some housework. She was really

tired when I was go to school. Except for taking care of me, she also has to

work. Therefore, I want to help her in the holidays.What will you do on Summer

of Winter spend a lot of time on the homework.. Every day in my Winter Holiday,

I always got up late. Then I listened to the tape, it was nine o’clock. Then I

ate breakfast and then I did my homework during the daytime! I’m not very slow

but the homework was too heavy!
