In China, the Spring festival is the first day of the lunar year.

People usually start preparing for the festival one month before it comes. They prepare delicious food, and clean and decorate their homes.

On Chinese New Year’s Eve, the family all get together for a big dinner. They stay up till midnight, and then play fireworks and crackers for good luck. 照我家乡的老规矩，春节差不多在腊月初旬就开始了。

在我们家乡差不多在腊月初旬就要腌制腊肉，我所说的腊肉，就是把很多肉放在盆里，再把准备好的调料倒进盆里，这样放一个星期，就拿起来挂在有阳光的地方，挂一个星期就可以吃了。过年时大部分人桌上都有这道菜，这道菜不但吃起来香，而且色香味俱全。

在腊月二十九左右，我们就要到超市里买年货，我们要买：瓜子、糖。还要去菜市场买菜，今天必须把菜买齐全，否则过年那天买不到菜。

到了除夕，家家赶做年菜，到处是酒肉的香味。男女老少都穿起新衣，门外贴上了红红的对联，屋里贴好了各色的年画。除夕家家灯火通宵，不许间断，鞭炮声日夜不绝。在外边做事的人，除非万不得已，必须赶回家来吃团圆饭。这一夜，除了很小的孩子，没有什么人可以睡觉，都有守岁。

正月初一的光景截然不同：门前都堆着昨夜燃放的爆竹纸皮。这一天，大人们要早早的起床，为小孩做汤圆。而且在这一天里不能扫地，据说是要把财源扫走。

到了正月初六，那些商店都开门了。一眨眼，正月十五过了。学生该去上学。大人们有去照常做事。腊月和正月是农村最闲的时候。天气渐渐转暖，大家带着春意又开始新的生活。
