On College Students Occupying Seats

In English, there is an expression “First Come, First Served” (FCFS). This stresses the need for orderliness, which also applies to college students searching for seats in the reading rooms of a library. However, in China, things are somehow complicated. Instead of occupying seats with their own persons, students tend to use books, backpacks or other personal objects to stand for their “legitimate” ownership of the seats.

To such extent, the emergence of such a practice, now almost ubiquitous on all campuses, is justified. The seats for students to conduct self-study are limited and university authorities should endeavor to increase such facilities to satisfy students needs. At least, students efforts to fight for seats indicate they are enthusiastic about their studies—their academic initiatives should be duly recognized and encouraged! However, using personal belongings to occupy seats may exacerbate the scarcity of facilities—some irresponsible students might never turn up, sometimes even for days. They waste the precious resources and damage the interests of other students who have real needs. Such behavior deserves unconditional criticism and condemnation.

Both university authorities and students should do their best to solve the problem. The authorities should create more reading rooms to satisfy students needs whereas students should not waste the already limited resources. In this way, an optimum allocation of resources can be realized and all students would enjoy their studies.

Should Class Attendance be Required?

Nowadays required class attendance is very common at colleges and universities. Most people accept ti as a necessary policy t ensure the normal teaching order and create a good study atmosphere. Besieds, they think it is a good urge for those students who lack self-discipline.

However, still some others do not agree this argument. In their opinion, rigid attendance policies do not benefit students studies. A student may have to give up a lecture which he finds bital to his studies simply because he dare not run the risk of being penalized for his absence of his course. Besides, they say there is no proven correlation between attendance and performance.

As for me, I am in favor of the latter opinion. Required class attendance may secure one hundred percent attendance for a course, but it does not make much sense. A student may never be absent in a course, but who knows whether or not he is just sistting there daydreaming all the time. Therefore, a student should allowed to decide for himself whether an in-class wxperience is worthwhile.

看看网上的评价，这样的言论不绝于耳，盲从者也乐意看到有人为种种社会怪象找出了一个替罪羊，让他们在生活高压中层层积累下的压力和情绪有了一个肆意宣泄、喊打喊杀的地方。但是如果你肯学习一些金融知识，并愿意用自己的头脑去思考，你就会发现，事实果真如此吗?

金融危机发源于万恶的投行吗?

“我不是经济学家，对于金融危机这个词我没有办法做出专业的解释。但是有一点我们可以大体明确，金融危机爆发的过程是一个痛苦的‘挤泡沫’的过程。可是泡沫是哪里来的?金融危机爆发的前提一定是市场先积累了大量的泡沫，然后才有了后面的‘挤泡沫’。以上证指数为例，如果大盘涨到5000、6000、10000肯定是有泡沫，但是大盘跌到2000、1800、1600的时候谁能站出来说市场有泡沫?只有当市场价格严重高于实际价值中枢的时候，市场才会有严重的泡沫，才会有后面惨烈的‘挤泡沫’的过程。

Some people may believe that going to classes should be optional, but I disagree. I dont understand how university students can expect to learn anything if they dont attend classes. Personal experience can help people learn about themselves and the world outside the classroom, but when it comes to learning about academic subjects, students need to be in class.

In class they receive the benefit of the teachers knowledge. The best teachers do more than just go over the material in the class textbook. They draw their students into discussion of the material. They present opposing points of view. They schedule guest speakers to come, give the students additional information, or show documentary films on the subject.

Also, attending classes on any subject teaches more than just facts. It teaches students how to learn, how to absorb information and then apply what theyve learned to other situations. Their teacher is the best one to help them with these skills. They cant learn them just by reading the textbook.

Going to class also teaches students how to work with the other members of the class. Many times students will be given group assignments. This is different from what they did in secondary school. Here theyre with people from different backgrounds and experiences. In this situation, they learn how to handle working with people different from themselves to achieve a common goal.

Going to class also teaches students responsibility and discipline. Having to be at a particular place at a particular time prepares themselves for getting a job. Being at a place on time with an assignment completed prepares them for a career.

In short, by going to class, students learn more than just information from the teacher. They also learn how to learn, how to work with others, and how to work responsibly. These are not optional skills in life, so attending classes should not be optional in college.

In recent years, college studentsfind it increasingly difficult toget a

job. It sounds strange since young college students are usually intelligent,

well-educated phenomenon, aspirant and eager to bring their talent into full

play. Then what underlies the strange phenomenon?

There are several reasons for this.To begin with, nowadays college students

aim too high. All they want are “good” jobs which could offer good salary,

comfortable working conditions, high social status among others. Consequently,

most college students are unwilling to accept vacant jobs they consider

not“good” enough. Another reason is thatthere is a big gap between the majors

some students study in school and the demands of vacant jobs. So companies think

some students are not fit for the jobs.

Solution to the problem requiresefforts on both the society and the

students. The companies should value the students, talent and knowledge while

the latter should not merely aim at material gains. They should be down-to–earth

in building up their career. Furthermore, they should face their weak points so

as to improve themselves and be more competent.

Because of the fiction movie 2012 which describes a horrible scene that the whole world was destroyed by earthquake, volcano and tsunami, the view of doomsday is making a great clamor. Mayans predicted December 21, 2012 is the end of the world and the sun of 22th will never rise again.

Though it is now seems that this prediction is just a nonsense without any scientific support, it did provoke peoples thinking about environment. In awake of the prediction, we cant help asking why this horrible prediction happen? I think one answer may be related to the environmental degradation. As we all can see and feel, the worlds environment is going downhill with severely polluted rivers and airs. More often we cant see clearly the sun because of heavy air suspended matter caused by pollution. If continues going this way, I think the doomed day will come true if not now, then one day.

In consequences, for the sake of our own life, we should take efforts to protect the environment and save this planet. is the alarm bell to human beings that we should protect our planet, culture and civilization. Otherwise, the doomsday will come soon.
