SomeHolidays are so much fun that they catch on outside of their culture. The most obvious exampleisprobably Christmas, which is celebrated around the world by people who aren’t even Christian. The Dragon Boat Festival is one of three majorChineseholidays, along with the Spring and Moon Festivals. Of the three, it is possibly the oldest, dating back to the Warring States Period in 227 B.C. The festival commemorates Qu Yuan, a minister in the service of the Chu Emperor. Despairing over corruption at court, Qu threw himself into a river. Townspeople jumped into their boats and tried in vain to save him. Then, hoping to distract hungry fish from his body, the people scattered rice on the water.

Over the years, the story of Qu’s demise transformed into the traditions of racing dragon boats and eating zongzi – a kind of rice wrapped in bamboo leaves. The races have certainly captured the imagination of people from all over the world. Every spring there are nearly 60 dragon boat races held outside of China in cities from Vancouver to Sydney, from Gdańsk, Poland to Cape Town, South Africa. Canada alone has nearly 50 dragon boat teams and Germany has nearly 30.

A few years later my mother was diagnosed with cancer and was not given long to live. Shortly before she died, Bob came over to my house alone one day. We talked about a lot of things, and then he told me that he wanted me to know that hed always be there for me, even after Mother was gone. Then he asked if he could adopt me.

I could hardly believe my ears. Tears streamed down my face. He wanted me - me! This man had no obligation to me, but he was reaching out from his heart, and I accepted. During the adoption proceedings, the judge commented on all the undesirable duties of his profession and then with a tear in his eye, thanked us for brightening his day as he pronounced us father and daughter. I was twenty-five, but I was his little girl.

Three short years later, Bob, too, was diagnosed with cancer and was gone within the year. At first I was hurt and angry at God for taking this father away too. But eventually the love and acceptance that I felt from Dad came through again, and I became, once more, grateful for the years we had.

On Fathers Day I always reflect on what Ive learned about fatherhood. Ive learned that it is not dependent on biology or even on raising a child. Fatherhood is a matter of the heart. Bobs gift from the heart will warm my soul for eternity.

I am in high school now and soon I will graduate. High schoolisthe

important stage of my life. I have learned a lot of things and to be a strong

girl. I met many difficulties in my study. I always wanted to give up, but

thinking about the future life, I told myself not to give up. So I became

stronger and had strong will. But I am very naughty to my parents. When they try

to educate me, I always act like I dont care, because I hate to be treated like

a small child. As I grow up, I try to change my attitude, but I am not perfect,

美联社9月9日报道称，极端组织“伊斯兰国”(IS)声称抓获了两名人质，一名为挪威男子，另一名为中国籍顾问。IS同时对释放人质提出了索要赎金的要求。

报道称，IS在最新一期发布的伊拉克宣传杂志《达比格》网络版上公布了这两名人质的照片，二人均身着黄色囚衣。挪威男子名为奥勒·约翰 ·格里姆斯高-奥夫斯塔(Ole Johan Grimsgaard-Ofstad)，48岁，来自挪威奥斯陆郡。该中国人质被确认名为Fan Jinghui，50岁，是来自北京的自由顾问。

对此，挪威首相埃尔娜·索尔贝格(Erna Solberg)在周三举行的新闻发布会上表示，确认该名40多岁的挪威男子在叙利亚被捕，“一切迹象 均表明，(IS)是幕后黑手”。索尔贝格称，该男子于1月底被抓。

综合俄罗斯卫星网报道，俄罗斯国防部于当地时间12月2日召开名为“打击国际恐怖主义的俄罗斯武装力量：新数据”的吹风会。俄罗斯国防部及俄军总参谋部在吹风会上指出，国际社会如想打败极端组织“伊斯兰国”，必须先摧毁其非法的石油贸易设施。

报道称，俄罗斯国防部表示，自俄罗斯对叙利亚境内极端组织展开空袭行动以来，战机在两个月内对叙利亚境内is控制下的32个工厂和11处石油加工厂实施了空袭，这导致恐怖分子每天非法贩卖石油的收入从300万美元下降到150万。

据俄军方表示，为开展非法石油贸易，“伊斯兰国”动用的运油车不少于8500辆，每昼夜最多运输石油20万桶。而最近一周，近2000名武装分子、超过120吨武器弹药和250辆各类型汽车从土耳其进入叙利亚境内。

俄军总参谋部称，俄罗斯了解“伊斯兰国”从叙利亚向土耳其运输石油的3条路线，并同时展示了“伊斯兰国”运送石油车队在叙利亚与土耳其边境的照片。
