During the three years, study occupied most of my time. I fought for the future with my classmates. We studied together and shared our opinion about the difficult points. When I made great progress, I was so happy, but when I fell behind, I would not give up. I grew up and became patient, I was not the little girl anymore. In the part-time, I would go to play basketball with my friends, it became the most exciting thing at that time. Though the high school life was simple, I gained a lot. I would never forget the classmates who worked with me together.

My childhood was happy with my mothers love。 In my young heart， my mother was strong and healthy， and never got sick。 She took me to the kindergarten and home every day， in spite of rain and wind。

But one day， after we got home from the kindergarten， my mother went into the bedroom and stayed in bed。 I didnt know what had happened。 I sat beside her and wanted to cry。 My mother said to me， "It doesnt matter， mum has only a stomachache。 I will be all right after a while。" Although mother said so， I found tears in her eyes because of pain。 At that time I knew adults also got ill and cried。 I decided I would take care of my mother from then on。

奶奶用颤巍巍的双手，从棉布包里掏出一个大饼，“刚才不是说饿了么，隔壁张嫂听说你回来了，特意给你留的，怕你不吃冷的，就热了一下，还冒着气儿呢，快吃了吧!离晚饭还早着呢。”

望着那油乎乎的大饼，以及奶奶布满皱纹的苍老的手，顿觉难以下咽，再好的食欲也化为灰烬。“不用了奶奶，我不饿，可以熬到晚饭的。”“都说熬了，还不饿?赶快吃。”“她是嫌你脏。现在的孩子都娇生惯养的，哪会看上这些粗粮。”从门口传来的声音如刀般划过奶奶的心，拿着饼的手，渐渐垂下。我转过头，似是在寻找那说话之人，又似是在逃避什么。目光接触到一个木制的盆子，我的思绪又翻滚了。

五岁前，爸妈因工作忙没空照顾我，便被放在奶奶这里，奶奶便担负了我的吃喝睡。

那个木盆，则是在我住进奶奶家时用来洗澡的。小小的我坐在盆里，任凭奶奶搓洗，奶奶时而叨叨家常，时而讲两个小故事，逗得我“咯咯”直笑。印象中，奶奶的故事似乎永远讲不完，每次洗澡，总是一天中最快乐的时光。还有木盆里的小橡皮鸭，是奶奶怕我总是一个人自娱自乐会无聊，特地跑了三条街才给我买回来的。奶奶回来时，脚底几乎全是水泡，爸爸也为此唏嘘不已。

思绪转回时，奶奶的手已快垂落。我连忙“夺”过她手里的饼，大口大口的咀嚼起来，是一股熟悉的温暖的味道。“张嫂做的饼就是好吃，奶奶，下次帮我多留一点啊。”看着我有点狼狈的吃相，开心的笑了，像盛开的向日葵般灿烂，仿佛年轻了许多。可再美的花，也会凋零。人也一样，奶奶确实老了，尽管她从不服老。

The Three New Yorks

There are roughly three New Yorks. There is, first, the New York of the man or woman who was born here, who takes the city for granted and accepts its size and its turbulence as natural and inevitable. Second, there is the New York of the commuter — the city that is devoured by locusts each day and spat out each night. Third, there is the New York of the person who was born somewhere else and came to New York in quest of something. Of these three trembling cities the greatest is the last — the city of final destination, the city that is a goal. It is this third city that accounts for New Yorks high-strung disposition, its poetical deportment, its dedication to the arts, and its incomparable achievements. Commuters give the city its tidal restlessness, natives give it solidarity and continuity, but the settlers give it passion. And whether it is a farmer arriving from Italy to set up a small grocery store in a slum, or a young girl arriving from a small town in Mississippi to escape the indignity of being observed by her neighbors, or a boy arriving from the Corn Belt with a manuscript in his suitcase and a pain in his heart, it makes no difference: each embraces New York with the intense excitement of first love, each absorbs New York with the fresh eyes of an adventurer, each generates heat and light to dwarf the Consolidated Edison Company.
